Based in New York but originally hailing from Lagos, Nigeria we have the awesome and charismatic wave god that is Akanbi! 

Having moved to NY in 2010 he developed a taste for electronic music which ignited his oozing passion for the dancefloor and naturally led to the birth of his own night GROOVY GROOVY. A night driven by the ideology of community and creating a dance floor welcome to all where judgment is non existent. Having come off of a stellar set at Sustain Release where he went b2b with Ronan it’s a pleasure to have him. For his mix he serves us with a chunky dose of Amapiano landing into a dreamy downtempo soundscape that slowly evolves into a deeper house groove!

@giuliatess: "In this mix, I wanted to encapsulate the beats and hedonistic vibe from the '90s dance music and club scene - which is, I think, what I tried to reflect throughout my whole EP.

I put quite a few progressive breaks in there - something that has become a bit of a staple in my music and my sets (or so I’ve been told!). It’s become a bit of an obsession, so it was great to be able to channel that in this mix. This mix was created to get your blood pumping and I hope it can achieve that in whatever environment that means to the listener - whether it's to be played on a treadmill, a spin class or the afters at the office Christmas party, I want it to encourage people to move and get that huge lift that dance music is made to do."

Aziel Wesley x Juri Clue - Muevan El Culo (Saxoso Tribal Mix 2024)

Released in 1997, this collaboration between Snitzer & Mc Coy and Humate captures the intensity of European techno at the time. The Heavy Mix rhythm presses forward with a force. Synth lines swell in arcs that hover above the drums.

The combination of producers brought together different strengths. The drive and weight of Snitzer & Mc Coy with the melodic sensibility Humate had honed across records like Love Stimulation. The result is a piece that can fill a floor while keeping an edge of mystery intact.
A defining release for Superstition and a track that has carried its power into new generations of listeners, it holds its place as part of our Classic of the week selection.
