It is undeniable that we are living in uncertain times. For those of us failing to fit the patriarchal neoliberalist mould, we have lost hope in the future. We can see capitalism is not working but we cannot yet envisage an alternative. In a world where security is no longer feasible, the only constant we can rely on is change. Regardless of one’s point of reference, we can understand that every aspect of life, physical and mental is in flux and perhaps this transience is the only thing we can depend on.

This month we have invited composer and multidisciplinary visual artist, @amosphere, to ruminate on these ideas and create an hour of relief from these (and other) anxieties. A temporary suspension of reality…

German DJ Vladimir Ivkovic is resident at Dusseldorf’s Salon des Amateurs, and he has truly made the place his own over the last 12 years. Quite what to expect from him on any given night is anyone’s guess: he can do folk and experimental, sludgy techno or abrasive noise that is always original and arresting in equal measure. The Belgrade born artist also runs Offen Music and manages Loco Dice’s Desolat, and this year will close down our Selector’s stage, something we're truly looking forward to.

And it is that fact which informs the 80 minute podcast he has done for us here. Designed for soul soothing and post party contemplation, it is a meditative mix with basically no drums. Instead it is about suspensory ambient sounds, worldly lullabies and blissed out Balearic moments that encourage you to lay back and stare into the sky. As beautiful as it is beguiling, it is a mix that has us very excited for what is to come and proves what a singular talent this man is.

Emma Blake grew up in Glasgow, but the origins of her artistic career can be traced to Copenhagen. A few years ago she moved to the Danish capital for her studies, and a discovery of the local techno scene quickly led to her playing regularly at clubs like Culture Box. Usually this would involve spinning a mix of hard-and-fast techno and acid as one quarter of the much-loved Apeiron Crew, but the last twelve months have seen Blake gaining recognition beyond the collective. 

Blake’s offbeat studio work has played a part in this rapid ascent: her glitchy electro tracks have come out on labels like Outer Zone and Brokntoys, she regularly collaborates with Ctrls as Historical Repeater, and earlier this month Modeselektor used her pulsating cut 'Masha' for their 'Modeselektion Vol. 04' compilation. She joins them for Modeselektion with us on 16th June, so ahead of the date she sent a mix that highlights her love of broken techno and electro.
