This is beautiful! Anyone got an ID on this one?

There is no way to neatly sum up what @kush_jones does. Part of that is because the Bronx native is so relentless. Part of it is because he makes music purely for himself, self-releases most of it and therefore depends on no one. This year alone he's put out at least five releases. There have been footwork singles, house and breaks EPs, electro tunes and the 13th installment in his tool-y compilation series, Strictly 4 My CDJZ. He is just as flexible as a DJ, threading together Black music from across a global spectrum that can take in the sounds of Baltimore, Detroit and Jersey in the same set.

This is exactly what happens in this week's mix. The tempo is high throughout, but that never restricts what Jones can do. He is still able to explore plenty of nuances and shift the mood and groove while racing along at speed. Super sweet and soulful juke melts away into a flurry of jungle drums. Blistering warehouse techno builds to breaking point then club music takes over. It makes for a breathless but beautiful 65 minutes.

Influences: 
The music I play is usually influenced by the seasons; happier playful sounds in warmer months, intense moody sounds in cooler months.  This mix is a particularly moody mix of atmospheric drum and bass, EBM and techno taking inspiration from artists such as Patrick Russell, Forest Drive West and Pessimist.  I also find myself using a lot of atmospheric noise to create abstract movie-like soundtracks taking inspiration from Rrose and Paleman; this particular movie soundtrack is a fictitious bleak sci-fi horror.  I also usually try to avoid playing music with 4x4 kick patterns.  

Affiliations/Residencies/Projects: 
My main affiliation/project right now is PPRZ Records, a Vancouver BC based record label and podcast series I run with DJ Hockey.  I also curated for 'Afrofuturism is NOW' (a label to showcase some of my favourite POC artists) and I currently sit on the board of directors for Active Passive who host 'experimental/ambient' shows/festivals on Galiano Island, BC.  I don't have any specific club residencies, but I play most regularly at Dolly, one of my favourite venues in Vancouver.

The scene took place in Paris at la Machine du Moulin Rouge for Rinse France's birthday in february. We played early but the dancefloor was already completely packed.

It was the first time we played together. Few days before playing, we were wondering how to prepare the set, but we both agreed to play Freestyle and see what happens. The set is very spontaneous and full of tempo shifts, something that we both like a lot ! We should do it again in the future as it was so much fun !
