the project “que locura que capricho” was born out of their love for electronic music and neoperreo - a digital underground subgenre of reggaeton, that keeps its core rhythms and expands it in futuristic and unexpected ways.
they aim to introduce deconstructed latin music - latin core - to the german party scene by mixing traditional sounds they grew up with, as well as the ones they had to confront in their migration experience.

Welcome folks, to the 87th session of Peace Portal, broadcasting with Samewave Radio in Portland, and archived right here at home.

This episode is special for a few reasons. First of it is the 7th anniversary of Peace Portal, and I'll be breaking the format a bit with today's guest, sharing a recorded interview between her and I, followed by a mix inspired by our conversation.

I'm excited to be featuring @taylorbratches on this session. I first became aware of Taylor through her Dance Floor Epiphanies series with Resident Advisor. I've followed Taylor's writing and DJing since, but we connected via social media regarding her concepts around Rave As Ritual, presented most notably at the MAPS Psychedelic Science Conference this year.

The talk draws on her experience as a raver who has been able to tap into deeper channels of energy, leading her to a profession in energy work, and facilitating healing through psychedelics. We'll leave the more exciting details to Taylor though.

Coming up as a raver in the Denver electronic music, whilst also formally raised as a dancer prior to that, electronic music and DJing offered Taylor a way for her to keep moving and slowly discover her own language of movement. Starting out as DJ after a move to Los Angeles, it was another move to New York where the regular gigs started to land, making rounds in the club circuit at places such as Public Records, Good Room, The Bunker and Bossa Nova Civic Club. She's since toured across the US, taking her love for bass music and fusing a mixture of dubstep, acid, electro, DnB, and jungle with an aim of moving people both physically and spiritually. Having used dance as a profound healing tool for most of her life, her talks on 'Rave as Ritual' are an informative insight on the way a night of dancing can be a deeply therapeutic experience. Recently dropping 'Taylor' from her DJ name to help seperate her work in the healing arts, Bratches is a new reinvention of herself as a DJ and producer as she looks to the future.

She curates the mix series Walking and Falling, an appendage of the Chicago-based DJ mentorship program for female and non-binary artists. As a lifelong poet and dancer, her relationship to rhythm is intimate and ever-evolving. Heavily influenced by artists like Erika, Patrick Russell, Eris Drew, Sassmouth, Abby Echiverri and Derek Plaslaiko, her sets aim to fuse genres and to move people physically and spiritually, creating an experience that is both terrestrial and extraterrestrial. She has an upcoming release on Enmossed and writes for Resident Advisor.

artist statement: "This mix features selected tracks from Skee Mask, Somatic Responses, Objekt, Sam KDC, Yaleesa Hall, revlux, Alonzo, and others. It was made in ecstatic joy - I was jumping up and down and dancing in front of my CDJs while mixing. I improvised it in one take and lead with my intuition. Then I listened to it back and started to wonder: is it too intense? Too challenging? Too weird/psychotic? Too psychedelic? Too imperfect? Too emotional? Too dance-oriented? Too hybrid?
