Mia Sørlie is a Ngunnawal based DJ and curator who deeply values nurturing and contributing to the small but special Canberra music scene that has supported her for the past 8 years. 

 Her sound has a pattern of glitchy and/or cheeky vocals, often quick, sometimes slow, hot + bassy, etc etc. Her artist support resumé includes incredible local musicians C.Frim, Toni Yotzi, Kia and Skin On Skin as well as internationals Mama Snake, Aurora Halal, Bambounou and Boys Noize. 

As well as DJing, Mia owns and operates a clothing store, Blonde Concept. She occasionally throws parties under the Blonde brand at iconique Canberra clubs Sideway and One22.

This year, one of my goals it to push myself to be more experimental and feature artists that are lesser known. I have a vast library of music but I also listen to a lot of music from a lot of varying artists, usually a lot of Soundcloud mixes, so I want to incorporate what I hear in those mixes into my own work. January’s mixtape is a perfect example of what I’m trying to achieve. 

As you can see in the track list below, I would assume most people have heard of none of these artists. If you’re a bit nerdy on electronic music you might know Skee Mask and Loidis, and maybe Tristan Arp. Otherwise, this was a lot of me discovering new artists myself, doing a ton of digging through reposts and likes, finding tracks that come together to form a mix that’s something special. I would describe the vibe of this mix as ambient and electronic yet eclectic, with a mood that floats around from energetic to more somber and moving. The inclusion of vocals throughout I think is a nice element, bringing in a human touch to a rather digital composition.
