"My taste at the moment seems to have gone to two extremes. At home, I mostly listen to jazz and Joni Mitchell. In clubs, I’ve pretty much been playing the most stupid, over the top stuff I can find. After the last couple of years, there doesn’t seem to be much point in holding back. This mix reflects the vibe of shows I’ve played since last autumn. It was planned at the tail end of my Covid isolation and recorded on CDJs and a Xone 92 in as few takes as possible." - @minor-science

Stem, aka Jenny Cheng, is a London-based DJ and radio host. Stylistically, her curiosity-fuelled approach sees her prioritising energetic selections and explorative sounds from a global network of artists above any one genre or mood in particular. Very much in keeping with the musical melting pot bubbling away within the capital itself. 

Threading breakneck footwork and explosive East African club music with flashes of eerie ambient and Afro-Caribbean rhythms, Cheng’s Crack Mix is a fast and heavy thrill ride through some of her recent favourite tunes. Expect “many colours and flows” stitched together with serious velocity.

Bristol's Pluralist has been on a steady rise over the last few years, consistently releasing mighty EPs which showcase his take on percussive driven techno and leftfield bass music. He has made appearances on forward thinking club labels such as Control Freak Recordings, Accidental Meetings, Pressure Dome, Left, Right & Centre and a forthcoming EP on Le Chatroom. All of these labels are leading the way for the next generation of producers to come through in the UK, making Pluralist a go-to name in amongst this new wave. Definitely one to watch out for!

Djoser is the moniker of Egyptian-born producer Shady Daoud. Now based in Washington DC he has risen to prominence through his singular approach to sound design which draws upon influences from Bass and Dubstep alongside his studies of Nubian music. As such, the end result is often fascinating and frantic, his sound unique and unnerving on the dancefloor in the best way.

His last release came out on the prominent record label 3024, the imprint run by Martyn. This in and of itself demonstrates the pedigree of his sound and his careful attention to detail having garnered the respect of a figurehead of the local scene and a renowned musician on the global circuit.

More recently we received a promo copy of his new EP on Loosee which has been on heavy rotation and picked up by a number of DJ's in the know ever since.

All of this bodes very promisingly for an artist we expect is destined for big things - this mixtape is a statement of intent and we are delighted to welcome him to the series. Watch out..
