Launching our Field Maneuvers takeover is London-based DJ Tia Cousins with a mix that she says, “containing acid, bleeps, bloops, some cheesy vocals, ALL THE THINGS I LOVE!! live, laugh, field maneuvers always!” 

Marking 8 years of no frills raving, Field Maneuvers makes its return from the 2nd to 4th September at a brand new secret UK location. Located 2 hours from London, the festival invites a tight-knit crew of party people and a knockout lineup of headliners and emerging artists including Eris Drew & Octo Octa, FAUZIA, Overmono, Josey Rebelle, iona, Daytimers, ADAB, Doc Sleep and more. The festival champions local heroes and friends, of which Tia is included, alongside the likes of Ambient BabeStation Meltdown, Prince of Deptford, DJ Hectick and so many more.

Laani (@alanna-henry) is all about introducing you to music you love but don't yet know it. It’s the Londoner’s exceptional taste in all things jazz and Afro, soul and hip hop which makes that so. She demonstrates it with her regular The FullJoy Experience shows on Worldwide.fm and her work with Strut Records, but this week she heads into a different world of sound. 

House, acid and breaks are the order of the day here with cuts from the likes of Lady Blacktronika, Paula Tape, Soichi Terada and K-Lone all making for a lively selection. There is a classical leaning to start with as lush synth soul permeates the good-time grooves. Celebratory piano chords, peak time house and deeper moments all reflect the sound of a DJ able to play loose, free and with an irresistible sense of fun.

This month, UK duo Mount Kimbie put out a double-album that is essentially two solo records welded together. It's not terribly surprising: each member lives in different countries (the hip-hop inspired Dom Maker in LA, techno head Kai Campos in London) and they've talked about their differences and what each brings to the table in past interviews. MK 3.5: Die Cuts | City Planning splits the duo's kaleidoscopic sound into its constituent parts, with Maker's side focusing on woozy hip-hop and R&B and Campos's reflecting a love of straightforward '90s techno, as dance floor-friendly as anything the group have ever released.

It's the latter that we're here to showcase with this week's RA Podcast, which is a recording of Campos's new live set. In a way it's a more fleshed-out, comprehensive companion to the his side of the album, but it stands on its own as a blistering techno performance. Combining the melodic sense and quirky arrangement tics of Mount Kimbie with a pulsating, stripped-back approach borrowed from Detroit techno—classic drum machine sounds used to the fullest—Campos reinvents himself as one of London's best techno artists. Like the new Mount Kimbie album, it's different, welcome and impressive.

But recently, I have got the chance to muscle up my game a bit more on some techno dancefloors, and I really enjoy playing with this kind of energy. "I went to record this mix at the end of a super busy November where I had a lot of late-night/closing sets, and was kind of in that headspace. There's a mixture of old and new tracks - it showcases many different genres from 170 stuff to bassier bits, then into techno, electro, house, and breaks. I wanted to include one of the tracks from the Slacker release on Soft Raw, and since it's a faster tempo, I decided to go about the mix a bit differently than usual by starting off fast and then going slower and back up again. It's the kind of mix where you're not sure where it's going to go next, but when it goes there, it makes sense!"
