Having recently been acclaimed by Gilles Peterson as one of his 'future bubblers' Michael Diamond has now announced the release of a debut LP. The UK based musician draws upon an array of enigmatic influences - channeling inspiration from the underground electronic music circuit as well as from jazz, hip hop and the spaces in between.

When we asked him to record this mixtape, we weren't sure which way he might choose to go. This could have been an all out club affair but what we received is remarkably more abstract and conceptual offering a unique perspective into the workings of a promising young musician.

Joining us for Tapes #138 is London-based DJ, Jess Hands. Having only started DJing in 2023 Jess Hands has already played some of London’s most iconic festivals such as; Risen, Body Movements and Queens Yard as well as supporting the likes of Octo Octa, Jaguar, Aloka, Mollie Collins and many more. 

This year she played 2 international gigs, at the iconic Copenhagen venue Baggen as well as the Way Out West festival in Sweden. She is known for her bass driven mixes, with blends of left-field techno and UK bass and has featured on Keep Hush, Radio 1Xtra, NTS, Rinse, as well as her regular show on London’s Netil Radio.

The multifaceted talent Michael Diamond steps up for the next edition to our Off The Record mix series with a selection of bass driven leftfield club sounds. Off the back of his excellent EP "Placid Wakefulness" on his own Vasuki Sound imprint, which closed out the artists 2024 to much critical acclaim, we reached out to the South East Londoner for a mix. With a sound that draws elements which would stretch from  the likes of Music From Memory all the way to Hessle Audio Michael has deemed himself unique in production but also very much so in his DJ sets. With a massively expansive taste we knew he would be a perfect edition to Off The Record. With a more club focused mix delving into the UK techy and bass vibe it gives us an example of Michael Diamond at peak time. We had a brief chat with Michael about his mix and what he has coming up in 2025!

Nuvens [170] closes it off, built from recordings of the ocean near my city, drifting like clouds.
