After years spent in dinghy warehouses and clubs, Ben Sleia’s got a raver’s sensibility and an intuitive touch of what it takes to make a crowd feel. Following regular sets at Liverpool institution 24 Kitchen Street, as well as residencies on community radio stations Melodic Distraction Radio and Refuge
Worldwide in Berlin with her show Bruits, she caught the eye of curators at FOLD, Daisychain, Lobster Theremin, and contributed mixes to all series. She regularly plays in the UK and in Berlin, where she is based, showcasing a sound on the tastefully harsh left side, with a bent for the UK-centric: techno, electro, breaks, dubstep, hardcore, and jungle.

Bella Hall

Catching up with the ever evolving sound of the AMPFEMININE dream team, this time through founding member Bella Hall. She is a rising star of the Dutch circuit with her infectiously bumping blends of all things sub-bass and breaks. Her work with AMPFEMININE is geared towards creating greater accessibility for upcoming DJs to ensure a diverse music scene. Guided by the intention of making the audience dance, her sets are always filled with the juxtaposition of the dark and euphoric. 

Her thought process for this episode: “For this mix I wanted to channel a relaxed and dubby vibe. It was lovely to really challenge myself and keep the mix as relaxed as possible whilst still clearly something that one could hear in the club.”

In The Night

Virginia wears many different musical hats and always has. The Berlin based woman is a DJ, vocalist, song writer and producer who saw chart success early on in her career, as well as receiving underground acclaim for her album Fierce For The Night back in May 2016. She has written music with the likes of Steve Bug, has played a hybrid live and DJ set all over the world and has ties to labels like Ostgut Ton, Dolly Deluxe and Underground Quality. She has also famously provided vocals to some of Steffi’s most classic vocal tracks such as ‘Yours’, so is very much the voice of contemporary house music. 

Her podcast for us is entitled Greetings From My Garden - Music For The Heart Mix and shows off another side to the artist. It is made up of music more suited to home listening than dancing in the club, and features tracks from Massive Attack, Slam, The Orb, plus a new one of Steffi’s forthcoming album on Ostgut Ton. As such it’s a soothing listen of dreamy synths and comedown sounds, deep grooves and selection emotions that is the perfect soundtrack to the last days of summer.
