Kyoto-born, Berlin-based DJ, producer and artist, Alex Kassian has become a firm favourite of ours over here at Phonica over the past couple of years. His sophisticated, lush and organic sounding productions have been picked up by labels such as Paramida’s Love On The Rocks and Alex Bradley’s Utopia Records in recent years. His most recent release, Leave Your Life, was released in 2021 via Pinchy & Friends, and we can safely say it was one of our most-played, and bestselling, records of the year.

Together with Hiroaki OBA, Alex is also one-half of Opal Sunn, who have been operating their own imprint Planet Sundae since 2017, through which they self-released a number of EPs, catching the attention of and support from dance music luminaries such as Andrew Weatherall and DJ Sprinkles.

Fantastic Man has become one of the most exciting and revered producers on the circuit having released music on the likes of Mule, Love on the Rocks and Kitjen. He is also the founder of Superconscious Records alongside Griffin James.

As a DJ his musical taste is broad and wide ranging, drawing upon far reaching influences from the realm of House, Trance, Downtempo, Balearic and beyond. As such you never quite know what you are going to get but that's all part of the fun right?

Most recently he has been dabbling in a fast paced, new age approach to House and Trance - channeling the free spirited energy of the 90's and a sun kissed era for dance music.

Some might feel it to be nostalgic but he is very much at the forefront of a new wave of producers and DJ's looking to breathe life into and reinvigorate the sound.

This mixtape is one of the best we've heard in a while and is rightly suited to a Friday.

Excelling at a very competitive craft is somewhat hard, but doing it while garnering extensive admiration among your peers and throughout your audience is a feat that few can gloat about. Although never doing so, Roza Terenzi is one of the finest examples we have now of such a complete artisan. This Aussie managed to carve her space amidst connaisseurs and punters alike with a fine blend of eclectic boldness and vibrant presence, which is everything that fuels her fantastic productions, but is exactly what informs her approach to selection, where she constructs enthralling sets such as this one that crowns our current Gop Cast. A very timely one if we remember that, in these times of social distancing, it is quite heartwarming to know that someone from all the way across the world can make us all feel closer by the sheer power of music.
