As part of RA2122, our ongoing celebration of 21 years of club culture, we'll be featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties or clubs most important to their lives in dance music. First up we have Tama Sumo and Lakuti, both residents at Berlin's Panorama Bar, the house-focused room upstairs at Berghain. Panorama Bar has played host to thousands—if not millions—of people's most formative dance floor experiences, with an unparalleled vibe, near-perfect sound and window blinds that have taken their own place in dance music mythology. 

The duo's mix highlights the style that Tama Sumo and Lakuti have brought to the club and represents its anything-goes energy, mixing tracks from iconoclasts like Hieroglyphic Being (including one of his best-ever tracks) in with old-school favorites from Reel By Real, Larry Heard and even Ministry, moving from house to industrial to disco without batting an eyelid. Tama Sumo and Lakuti's loose but impeccable flow ties together house music history with a deep love and knowledge of all genres and, perhaps most importantly, the desire and know-how to just make people dance. We couldn't be more thrilled to feature Tama Sumo and Lakuti for the first mix in our birthday series, and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

Up next on our Phonica Mix Series is the Lecce born and Berlin based Massimiliano Pagliara!

The last time we saw Massi he was playing an in-store event for us here at Phonica and the crowd absolutely loved it! We’ve always been big fans of him here at the shop for his outstanding productions which have landed on labels such as ‘Live At Robert Johnson’ on ‘Rush Hour’ but Massi has been a DJ much longer than he’s been a producer and the vast amount of experience he has acquired playing at some of the best underground spots around the world simply can’t be ignored. Recently he’s also been welcomed into the Ostgut family with a spot on their agency’s roster and things seem to only be getting better. Massi describes his style behind the decks as an eclectic mix of House, Disco, Electro and Techno. His selection always pays homage to the past while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of dance music into the future. He also reflects this ethos in the studio where he experiments with new techniques on old analogue synthesizers. With a background in Dance and Choreography, Massimiliano definitely knows what it takes to get you moving and we couldn’t be happier with the extended and eclectic mix he prepared for us today.

Paramida is a breath of fresh air on the Berlin scene. Her sound and style goes against the dark, mono-chromatic, machine made music of most of the city and instead heads in a more colourful and Balearic direction. She pushes a bright and emotional sound, and runs the Love on the Rocks label with a similar aim. She calls herself ‘Berlin’s most hated’ but surely isn’t, instead she’s picking up ever more fans because of her “discofied tropical leanings” and passion for unusual house music. 

And you can expect plenty of that in her podcast. It soundtracks a slow awakening with retro synths drawing you into, and jumbled grooves ranging from dreamy to sunset in style. The overall vibe is one a late eighties house party in Ibiza with plenty of curveballs and moments of subtle euphoria all included. It’s refreshing alternative to the Berlin sound the world knows and loves, and is a timely and welcome edition to our own series.
