At The Lighthouse

Still Life is a beautiful EP that takes inspiration from the timeless art of still life paintings, where each track corresponds to a different element from the EPs cover's scene.

The opening track, "Black Tulips" sets a melancholic and surreal tone. The song creates an atmosphere where the listener is in a familiar room, but small, surreal details start to reveal themselves, such as black tulips on the coffee table. The image of black tulips serves as a symbol of something that is beautiful but also out of place.

The second track on this beautiful EP is called “Grandpas Camera”. It evokes a feeling of nostalgia through its wonky chords, pads, and bell melodies. The song is a tribute to the memories shared with my grandfather. The use of his old 70-year-old camera helps to preserve the memories and the connection to my grandfather, making it a personal and meaningful experience.

"Beeswax Candle" is the 3rd track and is a collaborative effort with the producer "kust". This song is a harmonious blend of rich and sweet sounds, featuring intricate guitar and chord work that beautifully complements the crisp and soothing drum groove. In the background, a subtle synth sound evokes the gentle hum of bees. The metaphor of the beeswax candle symbolizes the essence of honey and sweetness that mirrors the musical experience it provides.

The final track on the EP, "Teapot", serves as a fitting conclusion to this musical journey through the still life image. This tune exudes a warm and inviting aura that envelops the listener in a comforting atmosphere. The mild bass blends seamlessly with the chords, creating a cozy and comforting sound bed. The addition of foley sounds of an actual teapot creates a unique and immersive experience and brings the EP full circle by tying in the still life imagery that is central to its theme.

I came up with this song inspired by a short road trip I took to visit a friend I hadn't seen in a long while. I always end up having a great time visiting this friend so I was very much looking forward to getting there. I was dwelling on all the fun times we'd had on my way there.. wishing I could drive faster than the speed limit. I had a whole weekend of trekking, camping, and barbecuing planned and had packed all my gear with me. The sheer anticipation of a short break with my friend and beers in the sun had me pumped! So when I was back at my studio I had to turn that feeling into a song and 'on my way' is the result! I hope you like it!

This track is a captivating homage to the golden era of hip-hop, drawing inspiration from the infectious beats of the 80s and 90s. Infused with soulful elements, I sampled a captivating loop that sets the foundation for the song. Building upon this foundation, I added layers of guitar, skillfully crafted to give the impression of being sampled as well. The guitar and bass riff inject the track with an undeniable energy, while the drums anchor it firmly in the realm of old-school hip-hop, evoking the spirit of New York's East Coast scene.

The artwork accompanying this release adds another layer of nostalgia, as it was captured using a vintage Cosina CT9 35mm camera with Kodak Ektar 100 film, enhancing its authentic aesthetic. Remarkably, the perfect shot was taken on the 23rd exposure of the roll, aligning beautifully with the track's release date on the 23rd of June—an extra special day, as it also marks my birthday. It's as if the universe conspired to bring everything together in perfect harmony.

Amsterdam is home to me now, but I strongly identify with Potsdam too. It's a city close to Berlin and I lived there until my 20's. I'm excited to have this release with one of my homies from Potsdam, Smokey Da Bear. 

As a tribute to all the time that we spent chilling and vibing, we named the song after the place we hung out the most: Bassin. This track has some old-school drums and a very mellow and nostalgic feel to it. It reminds me of the grey summer days chilling at the Bassin.

This is a very defining quote in my work. My creativity is fueled by my feelings. I envision vibrant conversations between the guitar and piano sequences in most of my songs as an emotional outlet. I aspire to make music that strikes a chord with the listener. My musical genre is composed of, but not confined to Instrumental Hip-Hop, Jazzy beats, Chill beats and Lo-Fi Hip Hop.

Currently based in Amsterdam, I am passionate about sound design and work on recording my own sounds and instruments from scratch. With my music, I try to bring the world around me to life—from modern cityscapes to natural scenery. I enjoy collaborating with other artists and love learning different approaches to music creation.
