The Headless Ghost trilogy out on Tamed Musiq comes to a close with the EP ‘Let’s Fall’. 
Headless Ghost, the analogue and 100% hardware project from Raphael Gros aka Ripperton has already seen him put out 2 acclaimed EP’s ‘Out’ and ‘77’. This third installment easily carries on their reputation with two remixes from fellow Swiss producers Deetron and Agnes. ‘Let’s Fall’ is easy to listen to, but in no way compromising the complexity of the productions, each remixer manages to bring a totally different angle to Headless Ghost’s ‘Let’s Fall’. 
Headless Ghost’s original first track Let’s Fall has an almost mechanic atmosphere certainly fitting with the mode of production. Let’s fall skips through staccato samples and pounding basslines, the track is raw and dark without losing its melody 
Deetron’s remix is a bouncing re-appropriation of Headless Ghost’s original track that maintains many of the same characteristics be it re-produced in a slightly lighter and higher sounding tone. 
Agnes creates a languid rolling version of ‘Let’s Fall’, chopping and changing the placing of the samples in the track she maintains an almost lazy rhythm throughout

Following on from the debut release on Jamie Jones & Lee Foss’ new imprint, New Yorker Serge Devant makes his first appearance on Crosstown Rebels offshoot Rebellion with talented duo Audiofly on remix duty.

Setting the tone of the release, ‘The Way You Move’ is deep and dark at the roots with haunting vocals and an otherworldly aura. Audiofly deliver a solid remix, keeping it deep with rolling percussion and hypnotic energy.

o+ Serge Devant perfected his craft at legendary nightclubs such as Tunnel, Limelight and Crobar in New York from the late 90s. In 2008 he signed a deal with Ultra Records and released two albums. After releasing the first album in 2009, Serge began touring the world and forging a name for himself across the globe. After taking some time away from making music due to a serious back injury, he had the chance to rethink his musical direction. His latest release on Jamie Jones and Lee Foss’ new label Emerald City followed by this outstanding release on Rebellion proves that Serge Devant is back and stronger than ever.

o+o Luca Saporito and Anthony Middleton aka Audiofly are one of the leading musical partnerships on the scene. Their releases can be found on the likes of Get Physical, VIVa Music, Desolat and their own Supernature. They also run a successful series of events called Flying Circus that they take worldwide.

SoHaSo’s saga continues with a sound selection of singlets. Singular recordings from separate artists, bound together through Nuno Dos Santos’ spellbinding powers of creation and combination. The results are SOMEWHERE I and II: two compilations released digitally this summer, with this final edition completing the diptych.

Continuing the theme of inner reflection caught in music, SOMEWHERE II tells us story after story. Stories of longing, of guilt, of bitter melancholy, yet on the other hand: hope, affection and even ‘Unity’, as Paul Hughes’ addition remixed by Chymera is aptly named. Stories of laying in fields, hoping to catch falling stars, or diving deep and seeing how far you can go, somewhere, something is happening. From Stefan Vincent’s almost meditative How It Could Have Been, to Kid Culture’s nearly euphoric Arp313. From Malbetrieb’s tearjerking Nim to Locked Groove’s gloomy Namibia.

With even more tracks wedged in between, the SOMEWHERE series feels like a sound based confessional. Telling unheard stories, exposing unseen surfaces and unheard sounds. A compilation to cherish, of which this is the second part. SOMEWHERE I was released digitally earlier this summer, with both parts being made available on CD in very limited quantities.

An intriguing combination of names known and unknown, it’s once again testament that there’s so much happening, somewhere, all the time.

Malbetrieb - Nim (SOMEWHERE02)

Guy Gerbers Supplement Facts imprint continues to drop the bombs, this time courtesy of Brooklyn-based duo No Regular Play, with their searing package Fall Up To The Sky featuring the molten vocals of Maya Hatch and a blinding remix from Life and Death. The EP came about after label head Guy Gerber heard a recording of an NRP live set at an after party and was struck by one particular synth line, so much so that he contacted the pair shortly after to discuss a release. A prevailing musical connection on both sides made Supplement Facts the natural destination for Lookin - a track four years in the making. Having been a staple of the NRP live set through multiple reincarnations, the final version (built around the original synth line) was made especially for Supplement Facts and now features the vocals of Nicks cousin, Maya Hatch, who delivers the perfect female response to Gregs original musings. In Fall Up To The Sky, Mayas luscious voice infiltrates deep alongside warm gliding synth pads and the techy drive of the kicks craft a tight swinging groove. Lookin carries the trademark NRP lilt thats laidback and bumping in equal measure. Idiosyncratic purrs, human and discoid, dapple the kicking groove and Gregs sultry sleaze is the perfect playmate for the moody, strutting bassline. When the oscillating synth finally impacts its a streak of rave gold in the tracks armour. Life and Death turn in a stunning rework of Lookin in which Gregs vocal is toned down to a melancholy murmur and the emotive chords sweep over the bouncing bassline and crisp percussive beats. Shrouded in mystery and the subject of much acclaim in electronic music circles, the band and label Life and Death is the creative project that keeps on giving, responsible for some of 2011s most innovative music. Greg Paulus and Nick DeBryn met in Minnesota aged 8 and have been bonded by a mutual study and appreciation for a wide spectrum of sounds ever since. Inaugurated at the legendary Marcy Hotel, home to the Wolf + Lamb family, a melting pot of musical influences ultimately boiled down to No Regular Play. The NRP evolution continues with the near completion of an orchestra piece for the Minnesota Orchestra and the duo are preparing to release their debut album in 2012.

Pale Blue, the duo of Elizabeth Wight and Mike Simonetti, released their debut album to much critical acclaim back in 2015. They come together once again with their latest EP  You Stopped Dying due to drop on Crosstown Rebels in February.

“The “You Stopped Dying” ep takes influence from shoegaze groups like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine and moves it to the dance floor....The result is a strange hybrid that some have called “technogaze”....This would never work if Liz wasn’t such a strong vocalist. Pale Blue  is a hypnotic affair, the driving bass sitting perfectly under  Wight’s  powerful yet ethereal vocals. Daughter of Babylon takes the record into heavier techno territory with its thudding bass and Wight’s breathy vocals delicately layered over the top. On the flip side  Love is an unapologetically industrial number with screeching synths that echo around Wight’s vocals.

Simonetti and Wight have each earned their musical stripes in their own rights. Simonetti founded the hugely popular Italians Do It Better as well as his own successful record label, 2MR. He’s released a slew of records on highly regarded imprints such as Me Me Me, Correspondant and Public Release, and enjoys a fruitful career as a touring DJ, which shows no sign of abating. Wight has previously lent her exhilarating vocals to the West Coast band, Silver Hands of which she was once one half of.
