2013 saw Silicone Soul celebrating the 10th Anniversary of their Darkroom Dubs imprint. Launched in Glasgow back in 2003, the DRD stamp has become a mark of quality and seen many established names exploring deeper realms whilst also unearthing fresh and exciting global talent. 

From Fabric to Watergate, The Standard Rooftop to Club Bahrein Buenos Aires, the Scottish duo have celebrated their disco-decade with a string of '10 Year' parties spread across the last 12 months, building on Darkroom Dubs already strong global reach. 

To round off their birthday in style Craig and Graeme have asked some of the label's main acts and strongest supporters to contribute a track for a new compilation. Artists including jozif, Ryan Crosson, Uner, Gary Beck, Of Norway and Simon Garcia all feature in the collection that Silicone Soul present as a snapshot of the future sound and musical vision of Darkroom Dubs.

B1 Silicone Soul - Spanish Castle (Clip) [Darkroom Dubs 10]

After numerous releases for labels like Pong Musiq and Cuatro Records, Spanish DJ/producer Javier Orduña makes his AMAM debut, the Se Hace Camino EP. Javier is not a solitary nerd but rather someone who thrives on collaboration (also check out his recent EP together with Xordo of Sci+Tec Digital Audio) and this case is no different. It kicks off with AMAM labelmate Dakpa’s remix of “De Nuevo Otra Vez”—Why start the EP with a remix? Well, the title translates loosely as “once more all over again”, so it fits the concept! If you enjoyed Dakpa’s First Division EP released late last year, you’ll easily get sucked into the subtle, climbing pads while the crisp, jacking percussion forges ahead. Then, Javier teams up with Pablo Bolivar, known for his work on Curle and Desolat, for “The Goat Stripe to the Mountain”. This one is a more low-key, twinkling number with traces of electro splendor. 

“Mi Pollo” (Spanish for “my chicken”) highlights Orduña’s Latin roots, offering some kind of twisted synthetic flamenco tech-house. Then the original version of “De Nuevo Otra Vez” is unveiled, a chugging track that features a catchy, twee piano melody to tickle the ear drums just as much as the lower-end frequencies tickle your rear end. Finally, the source of the EP’s title, “Se Hace Camino al Andar”, offers a tasty mélange of acid, minimal and Kraftwerkian sounds, showing how Javier Orduña can project his influences into the future for a sort of sonic poetry.

Robag Wruhme has been playing songs by Santos from Frosinone in Italy in his DJ sets for a long time. It is always these kinds of weapons that bring the dance floor under control. Santos himself produced music since 1994 and runs the label “Let Me Understand Records”, and has been releasing exclusively his own great music on it since 2018. One day Santos sent a live session demo that immediately caught Robag Wruhme’s attention. The rawness of the beat construction and the strong influence of jazz were just more than right. Now the song is called “Lounge Sabotage” and brings two super sweet friends with it. They are called “In The Evening" and “Age of Gold”. 

We are more than pleased that this 3 track EP will be released on Tulpa Ovi Records.

Feines Tier veteran Johannes @klingebiel introduces @franz-matthews to the family and together they bring us “Ce Moment” EP, a basket of tunes full of colorful harmonies, bouncy grooves and poetic French lyrics. What more could one wish for?
The two producers and multi-instrumentalists met some years ago in their chosen
hometown Berlin and decided to fuse their producing and multi-instrumentalism game.
The first fruit of this labor was the much-loved and -played “Signs” on Heimlich records, now being followed by this EP here.
The title tune is an amalgamation of groovy electric bass riLs, spicy Prophet synth
sounds, melancholic vocals and certainly has something of that magic ingredient
people call the French Touch. A good tune to pick for House DJs who dig some Disco now and then and for Disco DJs in need of some solid House.
“La Traversée” is a crossing (multi-language pun intended) of bazillions of quirky synth sounds and melodies that somehow form a coherent whole, the sum of its part being a light and friendly but not cheesy house tune, that will make the sun go up on any dancefloor.
The mighty Kompakt overlord @michael-mayer-kompakt takes “Ce Moment” under his spell. The result is a grander and more mysterious aLair, made for bigger and darker dancefloors. The Sound of Cologne™ this is indeed!
Parisian up-and-comer @shimon-earthly adapts „La Traversée” into his sonic world. When Matthews and Shimon discussed the finished remix on the phone in French, all that le dilletant Johannes could understand from it were the words “très cool” and “after-hour vibe” , which… yes, completely tracks!
