The second EP from Jack Dice sees a huge leap in ambition for the project, a 5 track session that’s more addictive, direct and heady than its predecessor.
‘Sip Paint’ centres around ‘Stash’s Theme’ featuring rapper and producer Stash Marina, a track that deploys crisp triplets and saturated production straddling mainstream signatures on the one hand and a world of analogue/deviant recording techniques on the other. It’s an odd, hyper-addictive track - available here in both vocal and instrumental versions.
‘Low Glo’, ‘Kerosene’ and ‘Radium Dial’ are more subdued and immersive; you could draw lines straight through the material here to a number of different projects Twells has been involved with through the last decade, though he seems to benefit immeasurably from Chambliss’ presence. The pair find a perfect balance between their respective disciplines, resulting in an EP that at different points throws stylistic references to everything from Prince’s Black Album to The Art of Noise, Drake, Philip Jeck and Evian Christ’s DUGA 3 sessions - without ever sounding overworked or too knowing, a feat in itself.

A warm welcome to Sonson, who’s delivering the goods with the fantastic “My Blues EP”. 

The original took our hearts by storm with its silky-smooth live piano, effortlessly floating over a constantly driving, simple yet effective and uplifting groove work. So we immediately made plans for a full release with the talented Munich DJ and producer with whom we have been friends for years. It didn’t take long until Michael, Sonson’s real name, came up with the great idea of asking his old pal and French house don Franck Roger to remix the tune - an artist all of us deeply admire for his unique body of work and ongoing contribution to our scene (Real Tone, Earthrumental, countless nights at Paris’ Djoon club you name it). Luckily he’s been digging the tune and made two utterly great versions by adding his magic - the uplifting Earthrumental Mix that sticks with the piano and a Dubthrumental that fully lives up to its name. The package is rounded off by Sonson’s “My Dub” and “My Beat” versions and whereas the dub is a bit more stripped back, dropping off the piano while adding some trippy synth textures, the beat is just a perfect tool for the working DJ. Voila!

Premiere: Vincent Casanova - Morning Light (Lawrence Remix) [Manjumasi]

Originally released in 2009, this standout remix package followed the release of Steve Bug’s fourth full artist album, Collaboratory, which dropped earlier that year to widespread acclaim. The album captured Steve’s dedication to forward-thinking house music, teaming up with a stellar cast of collaborators including Gigi, Donnacha Costello, and Simon Flower.
Collaboratory Remixes Vol.1 brought fresh interpretations from Ribn, Motor City Drum Ensemble, and Sven Tasnadi, and still holds up today.

Ribn (aka Manuel Tur and Langenberg) deliver a deep, dubby, Detroit-tinged take on “Like It Should Be” featuring Gigi. Their Translucent Vox Remix builds with patience, drawing you in with a long, atmospheric intro before locking into a driving, bass-led groove that honors Gigi’s sultry vocals.

Motor City Drum Ensemble brings the heat with a raw house twist on “Still Music,” the Bug and Costello collaboration. Loaded with late 80s and early 90s drum machine attitude and bubbling keys, it’s an acid-tinged workout that still burns.
Sven Tasnadi rounds things out with a tight, tracky remix of “Passing Clouds” (Bug and Simon Flower), fusing melancholic synth lines with solid drums and a modern tech-house edge.

Mexican enfant extraordinaire @inigovontier is rolling in with his debut EP for Feines Tier and it’s a match made in heaven. Just judging on the name alone, as he seems to be from some kind of royal Tier family descent. But enough with the mind-numbingly bad puns and on to some brain-meltingly good music. Rolling. Everything’s rolling. Zongato is rolling. We don’t know who or what a Zongato is (a Google search just led to a Twitch streamer with that name and 0 followers), but they are definitely rolling. It’s got this special combination of straight and uncompromising beat and bass paired with psychedelic synth sirens floating around your head that somehow only the Mexicans really know how to nail. Astrolo is rolling. Like a well-oiled machine. Well, maybe like a not so well-oiled machine, one that’s shrieking and creaking, but has been running since forever and reliably will do so until we’re all gone from this Earth. If you ask Google Translate, Mucha Onda means „very cool“ in English, „molto bello“ in Italian or „valde frigidus“ in Latin and there is nothing more to add to that. The psychedelics are back (were they ever gone?) and kick in in full swing on Hedonist Lizard. A dangerous cocktail of high-proof alcoholic drum and bass patterns paired with some sugary spicy herbals of unknown origin, better not down it in one go. You were warned. On The Sounds Are Good, the sounds are good indeed! And rolling.
