Simple recording of an old melody, collected by Moyshe Beregovsky (Moisei Iakovlevich Beregovskii) in the early 1900s in Ukraine, later rediscovered in Kyiv, and subsequently adapted by Joey Weisenberg as the "Kane Street Nigun."

May the joyous energy of this nigun be a source of hope in a time of needless destruction and wanton violence now plaguing the region where it originated.

This song came out of me as a natural instinct to soothe my nervous system after engaging with secondhand and intergenerational trauma from the Holocaust. May it bring softness to our pain and courage to the resilient parts of us who still reach for the good in life.

This song came to our community through folks who learned it at a Let My People Sing workshop taught by the farmers at Linke Fligl. 

This version is a collaborative audio recording created by NSP members. Folks sang individually into their phones and computers, and then we edited the audio tracks, weaving all the voices together. We created this recording for a Musical Tu Bishvat Seder in 2021, hosted by Hadar's Rising Song Institute.
