Songblitz this week was Tundra and they don't have trees so that's where that idea came from. I was trying to embrace a deep bass sound so I layered a couple bass lines and I wanted to go downtempo to make it feel like an ancient glacier slowing moving kind of way. I picked the synths for the chords because they sounded icy and shimmery.

I'm in a music server on discord and every Monday we get a prompt and 24 hours to create a song for a listening party on Tuesday. The prompt this week was........ supernova! 

I started with a piano chord progression that I later sung as the intro and then I thought I wanted to try to make another bass heavy song so I worked on creating a couple bass lines. Once I had the intro and bass section done I recorded some of the lyrics and decided that it might sound nice with some organic viola in the beginning before it gets all heavy and electronic.

After I was done recording the viola and more vocals I started playing around with adding effects to my vocals like distortion. I hadn't really added distortion to my viola before so flipped through presets until I found the right crunchy sound that didn't make it too piercing and harsh. I'm really happy with how it turned out, it's not a sound I usually create so I might experiment with it more.

I chose piano as the instrument for the midi file to showcase the progression although I did change it a bit for the bridge and added a couple extra notes near the end. This week's songblitz prompt was "improvised cleaning implements" so that's where the idea for the lyrics came from. I also applied two layers of gross beat to my vocals with automation on each so they come in at different times. The viola has gross beat with automation as well so it starts glitchy, goes to normal and back. I tried to sidechain my kick and I think it worked? 

I really enjoy playing around on my viola and coming up with different layers, it's a ton of fun.

I'm in another music server that does hour challenges where we get a prompt just like songblitz but only an hour to make something for a listening party at the top of the hour. I usually only get a sketch done but if I like the direction the idea is going I'll expand on it so that's what I did this week.

The prompt was "a song that makes you feel hyped up" so went with a dance feeling with a little attitude meow. I might want to add more percussion later but I like it as it is right now so thought I'd share, thank you for listening!

Last week's songblitz was a longblitz so we got a week to create a song versus the usual 24 hours. I took the extra time to recharge a bit so I didn't start this until late in the week. The theme was crossroads and I didn't begin this song with the theme in mind, I just wanted to play around at first but I think it could be interpreted in a way that fits the theme anyways so I will submit this for the listening party tomorrow yay plus you don't even need to use the theme but I usually like to.

No viola in this one, I had fun trying different synth sounds and layering them. I started with a chord progression and then sang past the first verse acapella and filled in the chords in the chorus following the vocals.

The prompt for this song was "write about a time of the day" so my mind instantly went to afternoon delight and sabrina carpenter and being inspired by her cheekiness. 

It started from the short song challenge last week so I only got a small sketch done at first but it was fun to expand on it and see where the ideas wanted to go. It was still a bit short and I didn't want to go full sabrina carpenter so I tried adding a bridge.
