The legendary love story of two lovers begin in their childhood.

Katip was a naive soul, who tried to get a job at governmental office, but couldn' t because of favoritism.

His passion of music and mystic voice led him to become a music teacher in the palace, after Sultan coincidentally saw him singing and got attracted to his voice.

However, Nazlı and her father were sent to exile where his father died. When she returned from exile, she was forced to marry to a nobleman. Yet, she was deeply in love with Katip.

After a very sad seperation period, Katip's love and determination overrode, and the lovers rejoined.

This music video is inspired by "Katibim", one of the classics of Turkish cinema.

Album Description:

A mythical creature of Iranian legends and fables, the Huma bird is also a common motif in Sufi and Diwan poetry. Although there are many legends about this bird, common to all is that the Huma is said never to land on the ground, and instead lives its entire life flying invisibly high above the earth.

Omerar Nanda's "Huma Kusu" takes its inspiration from an old Anatolian folk song. Once upon a time in Turkey, there were two passionate lovers: Mustafa and Gülbahar. The day after their wedding, the state called all young men of the country to the military. Mustafa left home, knowing that maybe he would never see Gülbahar again. Years passed, no news of Mustafa arrived. His family lost all hope. Gülbahar went out to the garden every morning and waited for his return. With each passing day, she cried and cried, until her tears dried up. Heartbroken by this loss, Mustafa’s father created a requiem in which he called on the Huma bird to bring hopeful news about Mustafa.

trndmsk: What inspired you to produce the EP?

Meric: The unique multi-cultural character of Anatolia is inspiring many musicians. For a while, I am trying to make the re-interpretations of previously composed folk songs with an updated musical infrastructure; and making out new version to be played in the dance fields. The samples I used for the song „Hemshin“ was inspired from the experienced musical figure Nezih Ünen’s legendary documentary “Lost Songs of Anatolia”. The documentary mentions the musical range of Turkey. I wanted to put front, to the dance floors, a Deep House version of a very less known Anatolian folk song. (...)

Majnoon Arabic origins, other dialects pronounce it magnoon, it literally means "crazy" as in mentally ill, but has been extended in the vernacular to include something that's crazy or unbelievable. In Arabic language, Layla name means "night," and is thought to mean "one who works by night" or "worker of the dark." This is an apparent allusion to the fact that the romance of the star-crossed lovers was hidden and kept secret. In the Arabic language, the word Majnun means "a crazy person.

Says Deniz Özçelik. This Ghazal type poem explains the resignation, the devotion to the unexplainable. The song invites the audience to a meditative and englightening, pledging solidarity with the universe into stillness, by letting go of all types of discrimination causing from the concepts of ego and personality.

In a village on the southern side of the Alborz Mountain, by the Caspian Sea, lived an old woman with her beautiful daughter. Her name was Moon. She had silky white skin like the color of snow and breathtakingly long black hair that hung over her slender shoulders. Everybody loved Moon and Moon loved life. She woke up at dawn, made tea for her mother, and prayed on the terrace, facing the Alborz Mountain, which were pointing in the direction of Mecca. Moon had a beautiful melodic voice and she loved to sing. After her morning prayer, she sat on the terrace, facing the rising sun, as it slowly peeked out from behind the mountain, spreading its rays over the valley below, and then, second by second, slowly spread a shaft of light over the sea. She loved to gaze at the unfolding of a new day from her terrace. She praised God and sang a harmonious tune, first in a soft voice, repeating the words, “Praise to God who created the heaven and earth.” Then as the beam of light widened over the valley, her voice continued its enchanting tune, in harmony with cardinals singing in magnolia trees in the yard. She repeated over and over, “Praise to God who created the heaven and earth.” Majnoon are bringing the silver moon into the shores of Istanbul. This is their first offering for Shango Records. There two tracks will guide you to a trip in the East side. Antonio Alterino, Touzani and Duygu Civas are drinking Raki and eating Baklava.
