"Sunshine," Is a song about hope laced with forgiveness.  It talks of being hurt so bad that you wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy. 

Rising above that hurt makes you stronger. As the vocals begin to brighten you understand the singers soul has been trapped from showing her light, seeing the light.  

Nonetheless, she is in search of the light in search of joy, and her sacrifices are about to bring her right to it.
