From the vaults! This will be the first mix in a series where I recorded myself playing and pretty much got carried out of the club but miraculously the DJing was 'ok'. I have no idea how either. 

The Gathering at Doboz was one of the many times that my good friend David Crimson from Hungary booked me to play but it's memorable for slightly alternative reasons. Doboz is one of the famous 'ruin bars' in Budapest so it's an old apartment building which has been converted into a club but still has the original 60s communist bloc vibes present in the surroundings. I love Budapest and have been there many times due to the kindness and welcome from Crimson and his friends. 

I considered myself a pretty good drinker back in 2011 but I had a few slips after moving to Berlin as I was getting booked in places which had a big shot culture. Shouts to Poznan, Moscow, St Petersburgh, Tartu, Warsaw - I gained some great tales of near arrest, trying to sleep outside in minus 15 and waking up in strange beds with no memory for my memoirs. 

So I had a few 'mishaps' which taught me to respect pure alcohol. Or taught me to build up my tolerance further by plenty of shots in Berlin - I got there in the end. 

So at this gig I stupidly got stuck into the Palinka before the gig, I thought I had had 'a few' but David told me after the gig that I had drunk something like 7-9 shots in a very short time. Anyways I started my set and all seemed good and more shots were delivered to the decks. I guess it was that classic shots thing where they hit you all at once. Then things got a bit hazy and I remember kind of coming to and lying on the pile of coats in the DJ booth. Bear in mind this is while playing a main room headline set which my friends had been planning for several months. 

After that I am not sure what happened but David told me he had to get me and my records up several flights of stairs back to his flat where I was staying and I was sitting on my bag and refusing to move. All I can say is I am very sorry David. We're still friends honest.
