Saturday, December 13, after more than a year in the making, a brand-new album by Marius Nepvet is released: Grounded Now, Forever Young. The record features 15 powerful rock tracks in the pop metal tradition: 5 retakes, 3 covers of previously released songs through the AIMeurs label, and 7 brand-new compositions.

Vocals are performed primarily by Piet van Meurs, with two tracks featuring Els van Peppen. For fans of pop metal, this album is a must-listen. With Grounded Now, Forever Young, Marius Nepvet takes a major step toward a high level of quality and artistry.

Kurt Kjergaard stammt aus dem schönen Schwabenländle, genauer gesagt aus Heilbronn. Danach verschlug es ihn in den hohen Norden, nach Flensburg, nicht weit von der dänischen Grenze entfernt. Kurt dürfte vielen durch seinen „Beach Podcast™“-Kanal, der auf SoundCloud fast 13.000 Follower hat, bekannt sein. Hier werden seit 2014 regelmäßig DJ-Mixe von nationalen und internationalen Künstlern und Künstlerinnen präsentiert.

Lebensfreude, Erinnerungen und Emotionen – das sind Begriffe, die Kurt mit Musik verbindet. Seine größten Helden in der Musik waren und sind Depeche Mode. Auch deren Einfluss brachten ihn in den 90ern zur elektronischen Musik und dem DJing. Kurt bemerkte schnell, dass dies sein Steckenpferd ist. Mit dem Produzieren begann er erst vor gut vier Jahren. Sein Track „See What You Do“, der 2016 auf 5howtime Music released wurde, schaffte es bis auf Platz 2 der „Swiss Dance Charts Top 100“. Seine aktuellen Nummern erscheinen zum Großteil auf Cocunà Records und haben es bislang alle in die Schweizer Dance-Charts geschafft. Kurts Sound ist sehr facettenreich und eine Mixtur aus Melodic House und Progressive House, aber hört selbst!

TGMS Future Stars #99: Hoopla

Residentes Balearicos is a project founded by Luca Averna and Ale Doretto, both resident DJs in Ibiza and both hailing from Venice, Italy.

Together, they make music that tries to capture the amorphous energy of Ibiza, sizzling on sunny beaches, lulling through lounge conversations, and reaching palpable states in throbbing club nights before disseminating into the countryside air for replenishment.  

The project is based on a collaborative idea where Luca and Ale invite other artists from the island into the studio with the aim of sparking up new and fresh ideas for how Balearic music can sound, both within chillout and dancefloor disciplines.  

For Eivissenc, they were joined by DJ and producer Chris Coco. The music here is inscribed with the genesis of Residentes Balearicos: Luca’s flash of inspiration listening to old vinyl at the San Jordi Market and Ale and Chris’ sculpting of that idea into three radiant, highly danceable tracks.

Third number in the https://soundcloud.com/dalmata-daniel split series after a pair of releases courtesy of Betonkust/Új Bála and DJ Overdose/Sematic4, ‘DDS03’ sees Budapest duo SILF (alias Farbwechsel chief-operators Alpár & S Olbricht) and Den Haag-based pair https://soundcloud.com/intergalactic_gary  and https://soundcloud.com/pasiphax join forces on a quartet of elusive, unpigeonholeable power moves.

Four years after the drop of their debut joint EP on Biorhythm, ‘Made of Glass’, I-G and Pasiphae are back at it with two left-of-centre hybrids of futuristic techno on a whirring electro-industrial tip. An off-kilter jam percolating fine hints of spiritual elation and post-apocalyptic anxiety, ‘Microwaves’ gets the ball rolling on a dichotomous note. To slo-scudding flocks of loud, bouncy kicks supersede skeins of brittle chimes and rattling drums, all woven together by subtle tectonic shifts of moody pads.

A further hi-intensity affair, ‘Indistinct Chatter’ drives that essential heavenly/nightmarish duplicity to higher spheres of consciousness. Fusing lighthearted, daydreaming tonalities with brooding, cavernous onslaughts from the depths, the track has us navigating in a zone of its own, deftly oscillating betwixt moments of mystique-imbued euphoria and darkling introspection. A choice exponent of the Hague-based dyad’s capacity at busting antiquated patterns and limitations.

Having slept in the label’s vaults for a few seasons, the two tracks composing the B-side emerge from their slumber in all their time-proof bravura. An in-your-face trampler, the ten-minute long ‘Mono Miner’ takes no byway to get its point across, all set to smash basements and warehouses by the dozen with its electrifying compound of 909-emulated gut churn and spinning synth arpeggios circling like birds of prey over your sore, rhythm-enslaved carcass.

Closing the journey on a much softer, hazier vibe, ‘Aces’ steers us towards a realm of ambient wonder, where slo-drip cascades of tapping percussions and elegiac synth waters flow into warm, glimmering summer beds. A most contrasting, tranquillising finale to an EP defined by its propensity to change colours and intensity throughout.
