The first night is always charged with a very special energy, a spirit of initiation and collective emotion. Mayan Warrior crosses all the BM up to lands on the Deep Playa. All the people were there waiting and everything was ready…the opening ceremony finally starts and Diego Angelico Escobar aka Concret begins to play. Italo-Mexican musician and producer, founder and art director of Trafico Music Label, Concret took us into his soundscape made by mystical sounds, darkwave atmospheres and deep warm beats. Presenting also some of his recent productions he gave a solid and emotive first chapter to the 2015 Mayan Warrior Soundtrack and we all enjoyed the magic!

Concret has recently published on German label Toy Tonics/Gomma and is coming with a new work on the London based label Nein.

Berlin’s Sascha Funke weighs in with a hard-hitting new four-tracker for Tiga’s label.

Hot off his comeback on Multi Culti, this latest EP for Turbo Recordings takes the hypnotic, progressive vibe and drives it a little bit harder, leaning into every snare with precise power, carefully administering tension over the duration of professionally-paced arrangements. Title-track ‘IFA,' already a weapon in the crates of Funke-friends like Rebolledo, Michael Mayer and Tiga, sounds like the kind of peak-time party power you'd expect those dudes to pull out in the darker hours of their deepest sets, when the soundtrack calls for more than basic, visceral limb-pumping, but full disorientation, actual mind-losing. ‘Robur' rolls out of that space with minimalistic-tribalism, sounding like a mental apocalyptic march, pushing forward with intractable force, an energy which eventually relents on ‘MZ,’ opening up dramatically with an epic chord progression that blooms into ecstatic, piano-house. Think ‘old-school baby,’ revisited with bittersweet self-awareness, taking us back to a place we know well, inspiring one last dance, accessing the naive rave-spirit all-too often forgotten in the ‘industry'. Finally, ‘Barkas’ recalls the tones and timbres from ‘In Relationen,’ reflecting an emotionally placid state, a sound of radiant clarity, the sound of an artist at peace with his place in the cosmos, balancing past and future, energy and stillness, mind and body.

Our third Ritual Cast is curated by our resident @shoshodj, best known for his mixture of deep, tech and techno. Producing and DJing for more than a decade, his sound has spread across continents. Touring through the USA, South America, Europe and the Middle East he has played the likes of BPM Festival, Sónar Festival Barcelona, Oster Air Hamburg. On his musical journey he became an integral part of Metodi Hristov’s Set About label and has been a central figure in showcasing its sound. This has led him to release for labels of significance like Terminal M, Toolroom, Time Has Changed, 303 Lovers, Trapez and Lapsus Music, while gaining further global recognition. Amidst travelling and studio time, 2017 also saw him becoming an important part of Ritual Gatherings. In spite of his numerous travels and diverse projects, Shosho never loses track of his core values, drive to create experiences and passion for music.

3 QUESTIONS to ROBIN SCHELLENBERG:

Q: Talking about your mix: How did these tracks have an impact on your
career?

A: This mix is full of music that shaped my understanding of melodic techno. The youngest track in the mix is 10 years old! It‘s from Stimming, one of the most influential acts in my early days. Extrawelt opened my mind with their album from 2008. I had great dances to those songs, floating over the dance floor. I played them really often in my sets back then. The grinding sound of a young Bodzin and Holden’s epic remix „The Sky Was Pink”, defined my perception of a certain aesthetics in Melodic Techno. The opening track in this mix is aswell the oldest one. It´s a King Crimson song from 1969, which still drives me nuts when i hear it. 

Q: From Berlins roof Klunkerkranich to the best clubs and labels on the planet. How did you get connected with the electronic music scene?

A: I started with turntables and Hip-Hop around 20 years ago. Really low profile, more or less just for me. When I came to Berlin 17 years ago, I wasn’t quite in contact with Techno music yet. I had some Progressive Rock projects and a Hip-Hop live band. I was also producing Hip-Hop beats and step by step I came closer to French House. Almost 12 years ago I met my partner in crime, Dorle. My Electronic and Techno adventure started with her. I was quite lucky to bump into a really adorable group of people as a very young guy. They became quite quickly kind of my family and with them I started to explore this crazy world of four-on-the-floor. My love for this music has never stopped since then. After a long break, not making music for years, I started 2019 my new project, with my real name. In 2019 I released music for Stil Vor Talent, Rebellion Der Träumer, Mono Noise, Chapter 24 and many more. 

Q: Which exciting projects are on the way?

A: I’m really happy to be part of this podcast family now! Another podcast, with a more modern track selection will come out by the end of March. Very new is as well a solo remix for Panik Pop that was released 13th of March. It's a dancefloor uptempo tune. I´m also working on new music/remixes with my production partner Vruno, to be released by Kamai Music – the label that I co-founded with Jacob Groening, Zigan Aldi & the beloved Bonfante in 2018. I’m also really excited about my next appearances at Stil Vor Talent in April and June: it will be a collaboration with Rauschhaus and my other studio partner (and kind of brother) Daniele Di Martino. We've been chosen by Oli Koletzki for his upcoming 15 years birthday compilation. More remixes for different artists are coming up and I’m looking also forward to my first joint release with Vruno at Get Physical this summer.

Für die heutige Lockdown-Unterhaltung ist die DJ-Frau und Produzentin Anja Zaube zuständig. Ihren technoiden und äußerst abwechslungsreichen Sound verfolge ich schon seit ein paar Jahren … leider hat es sich noch nicht ergeben das ich sie live hören durfte. Aber steht ganz weit oben auf meiner Wunschliste. Naja hoffentlich geht’s im Frühjahr wieder voll los und dann wird sich bestimmt eine Möglichkeit finden … ich bin eh untertanzt. Anja tausend dank für dieses Meisterwerk … bisschen dunkler und düsterer darf es in der Zeit schon auch mal sein.
