This is my latest mix i did for sceen.fm and in the context of the new synthesis ep with microtrauma coming 23.11.2015. in here is a complete version of the main track harmonia. As well the mix could be called a synthesis of slow music transforming into dance music and indie driven vibes. showing a bit more than the usual club experience. i hope you enjoy this folks!

ABOUT LIVING ROOM SONGS:

Icelandic contemporary composer Ólafur Arnalds created and released a new song, one per day for one for one whole week during the month of October 2011. The songs were recorded and filmed live in the living room of his Reykjavik apartment and released instantly for free as streamed videos and mp3 downloads.

Living Room Songs will now also be released on CD, Vinyl, Ltd. Special Edition CD &amp; DVD and as High Quality Downloads on December 5th via Erased Tapes.


Following in the spirit of Ólafur Arnalds’ critically acclaimed Found Songs (2009) now comes Living Room Songs. This time Ólafur takes the idea further and invites the audience into the comfort of his living room, where the songs were recorded live and the whole process filmed. The songs were instantly released in form of a free mp3 download and video stream- straight from Ólafur's Reykjavik apartment.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: ‘One night I was just playing my piano here in this apartment and I was writing a new song and I didn't have my phone on me which I usually use to record ideas. So I actually took out my MacBook and I didn't want to open like a proper recording program, so I just opened Photo Booth and recorded a video of myself playing the song so that I would remember the song. And I really liked the atmosphere of that video and that's when I thought I should do a series of songs in my living room...’             – Ólafur Arnalds


Born in the suburban Icelandic town of Mosfellsbær, a few kilometers outside of Reykjavík, the 24-year old composer has always enjoyed pushing boundaries with both his studio work and his live-shows. Through relentless touring and determination this young artist has steadily gained recognition worldwide since his 2007 debut Eulogy for Evolution. Ólafur Arnalds’ second full-length album ...and they have escaped the weight of darkness, continues his mission to lure an indie-generation of pop and rock fans into an emotive world of beguiling electronic chamber music and delicate classical arrangements. Ólafur is currently touring with Ryuichi Sakamoto on his Trio Tour throughout Europe.

On this mix, originally appearing on Headphone Commute podcast in May of 2017, we celebrate some of the pioneers of early electronic ambient music, with the help of a long-time contributor, Fingers in the Noise. Here are all of the first explorations into the then unnamed genre, sometimes referred to as avant-garde, new-music, or simply electronic music. Pictured for the cover art of this mix is Laurie Spiegel, an American composer, who, while working in Bell Laboratories in the early 70s, composed with analog synthesizers using interactive software she wrote herself. Some of this music is hard to come by, with the early experiments a bit difficult to digest, so I thank Laurent Bisch for his wonderful selection of tracks for this very special tribute.

We continue our monthly mix series Movements, bringing you mixes from DJs and producers we admire. Volume IX brought to you by @blooplondon radio boss Dean Mir (@deanmir). Built with heart, humor and a devotion to broadcasting electronic music, bloop radio is a family run operation that has risen quickly since its incorporation in 2015.  With Dean heading operations, programming and A&R, bloop now boasts listeners tuning in from over 60 countries daily – no small feat in an ever-expanding landscape of platforms, outlets, tastes and frankly, noise. 

Aside from his successes in the crowded world of online radio, Dean’s creative streak shines in his abilities behind turntables. Along with hosting his weekly show ‘Interlude’ on bloop. and running live streamed rooftop parties throughout the summer, Mir has earned a reputation for himself in the warm up circuit in London, supporting Apparat, Agoria, Dark Sky, Jennifer Cardini, Fort Romeau, Pantha du Prince, Patrice Baumel, and Stephan Bodzin over the last year – to name but a few.

At first listen to his Movements mix one thing is evident, Dean is a dreamer. His selections are eloquent, peaceful and reassuring. The mix floats through what feels like an hour long guided tour in mindfulness, with each angelic melody mixed at the perfect phrasing of the next, creating an effortless and balanced ride which Mir has become known for in his warm ups - readying the floor by bathing the listener in what feels like musical mysticism.

Melokolektiv & Konvex & The Shadow 5 hours set @ Sisyphos, Berlin, 13th Of May

The track is called 'Parting Ways', and is set to a video sequence by the awesome Maxime Causeret, telling the story of creation via endless division. 

It's the first time I've made a live improvised piece of music, it gives it a different feel, less precise arrangement, constant patch morphing and more flow. Something to get lost in hopefully. Myself on synths, Six Sigma on bassline, and Adam Betts on drums. I added some detailing later and the big retro snare etc, but the core synth and basslines that run throughout came from that initial jam session.

The new album project is full of scores to infinite visualisations, so it needed some spacey synth noodlings to match. I hope you enjoy it.

Riva is a Switzerland-based rock band with a dark electro-pop sensibility. With
members' influences ranging from the Cure to Anathema to IAMX, both the driving beats and the weightless, watery atmospheres in Riva's sound are tinged with an earnest melancholia.
