Star B, aka Mark Broom & Riva Star, drop ‘Love Will Remain EP’ on Rekids.

Both Riva Starr and Mark Broom are respected DJs and prolific producers, with individual releases on the
likes of Rekids, Hot Creations, and Starr’s Snatch! Records, amongst others. Together as Star B, the duo
craft disco and funk-infused house and techno with expressive vocals and heavyweight production.

Leading the release, ‘Love Will Remain’ brings chunky, pumping drums, spoken word, and funky disco slices together for a grooving A-side. On the flip, ‘I’ve Got Joy’ heads for the club, combining synth stabs and rocking percussion under heavy-low end and spine-tingling vocals for a surefire party-starter.

Cera Alba returns to MadTech this June with the ’89 EP, comprising two original compositions, a dub interpretation and a remix from Montel.

Liam Jones, better known to most as Cera Alba has become a driving force for underground house and techno from the UK over the past few years with releases on Hot Creations, AVOTRE, Lost Records and of course Kerri Chandler’s MadTech imprint where he returns to here.

Kick starting the release is title cut ‘‘89’ which lays down a dark and brooding groove via weight percussion and bubbling dub stabs before gradually unfolding into a crescendo of bright piano chords and soul infused vocal lines. ‘Solitary Nights’ follows and retains the eerie aesthetic of the preceding record, laying the focus on menacing bass drones, tension building atmospherics and rumbling subs, while subtly evolving percussion and sporadic vocal licks ebb and flow throughout.

Montel steps in to remix ‘’89’ next, bringing shuffled rhythms, chugging bass swells and swirling delayed snippets from the original vocal and piano into the limelight to create a unique twist on the original number. A ‘Dub’ of ‘’89’ from Alba then shapes up the package.

UK techno legend Mark Broom returns to Rekids in February to release four uplifting cuts in the form of his ‘Break 97’ EP.

Mark Broom’s musical career is certainly something to behold – with over 150 releases over the past 25 years, on top of regular gigs across the world’s most renowned institutions, there’s no doubting his work ethic and his influence upon the scene. A prolific artist and true pioneer in the techno world, having worked with revered labels such as Warp, R&S, Ifach and Soma, and in more recent times Blueprint, EPM Music, Red Sonja Records and his own Beard Man Records, his ‘Break 97’ EP kick-starts 2019 for Radio Slave’s Rekids as the imprint adds yet another outstanding name to its roster following the likes of DJ Deep, Sebo K, DJ Spider and more.

‘Break 97’ sets the tone of the EP with a fusion of techno and disco, delicately blending funk-infused chords and resonating kicks amongst groove-filled vocals, before ‘Heart’ delivers inspiriting disco samples, punchy low end and elevating strings to reveal an effervescent aesthetic throughout. ‘EFB’ takes things up a notch, offering a dancefloor focused cut balancing rattling highs, vibrant synth flutters and a muffled vocal line, until ‘G Theme’ rounds out proceedings armed with robust percussion, electrifying vocals and undulating, euphoric keys.

Riva Starr makes a highly anticipated return to his Snatch! imprint with two uplifting, soul-drenched house cuts featuring vocals from London-based singer Gavin Holligan.

As always with a release from East-London-based Stefano Miele, aka Riva Starr, there's fun, funk and musicality in bucketloads on offer with 'If I Could Only Be Sure'. Title-track 'If I Could Only Be Sure' is a soulful cut, fusing sultry, emotive vocals from ex-footballer and singer-songwriter Holligan with rich keys and a captivating groove. 'Scat Dub', a glorious and buoyant piece driven by loose, organic percussion and titular vocal rhythms that tightly wind hooks upon hooks within the track, rounds things off with some serious earworm-ing chops.

A musical free spirit, there's good reason why Riva Starr's productions and remixes find homes at so many top tier labels and 'If I Could Only Be Sure', complete with superb vocals from Gavin Holligan, is yet another diamond in his discography.
