As artists, we become who we are in part due to the people in our lives who inspire, encourage, and support us to become more than we thought possible.  Brahms had that encouragement through the loving mentorship of Robert and Clara Schumann, and I had that encouragement through the always inspirational support of my mother, Patricia Claussen.  This piece speaks to a deep emotional love.  It is lyrical, yet haunting, and at times profoundly longing, and it found its way into my heart like so many of Brahms compositions.  This recording is dedicated to my mother whose depth of soul bore no bounds and whose light in spirit inspired me to become the musician I am today.  Love you mom!  Wouldn't be who I am today without you.

In 1592, the writer and critic Robert Greene accused the budding playwright William Shakespeare of plagiarism, and this stung the Bard deeply. Joe Loewenstein, professor of English and director of the Interdisciplinary Project in the Humanities and the Digital Humanities Workshop, shares Shakespeares initial response to the critique and explains how, even decades later, the Bard was still responding to Greene--though not in the way you might expect. He also discusses the culture of imitation and plagiarism in the late 16th- and early 17th-centuries.
