Hello my name is river, this is my ep titled Soir Bleu. these three tracks outline and introduce the core ideas of my next album 'Running'. All sounds written, produced, recorded, arranged, performed and mixed by River Langford.


'Gods A Women' speaks on what women mean to me and there role in my life. being born and brought up by a single mother i idealise the strength of women (especially from my upbringing). entering my teen years with a seemingly endless amount lust, I look back at my life and realise all my males role models (par one) have only hurt the very women that love them. each verse is written with a theme and person in mind, playing off the core ideas like love, rebirth and lust. the main theme 'love' is a complicated emotion and can mean so many things to so many people, from a mother looking at her child for the first time to knowing when to leave. its a hard and sometimes impossibly difficult feeling to understand, and this song is a manifesto to all the women I've loved and have loved me.


'Fireplace' deals with nostalgia, sleepless nights and how hard it is to not reminisce times where life was simple. I wrote this song at 2am after seeing a photo my mum sent me of me at 15 dancing in front of the fireplace at her house. I sat in silence and thought about how mundane my problems where back then, on who I had a crush on, on what subjects I was doing in school etc. quickly spiralled into a wave existential thought. 'maybe I should've done this or that' and 'maybe if I followed my heart it would've worked out' etc... i then sat at my keyboard and first thing I played was that main melody, the first word out of my mouth was fireplace and the rest fit together like a puzzle. its really difficult to dwell on the past and I think this song encapsulates that. nostalgia is drowsy, and slow but harsh and perfectly timed with patterns that repeat your whole life.

'The Free Fall' is something I've been running from my whole life, loneliness is hard art to master. during lockdown I experienced a profound cross road in my life, where id dropped out go high school to pursue music (specifically drumming) I had dreams of moving to Sydney and becoming a professional musician. but then lockdown... I started working fulltime and my dream almost died, then my sister said I should enrol at Tafe in Sydney and so I did lockdown lifted and I promptly moves then... the second lockdown... 17, alone and broke, id moved 4 hours away from my family just to wake up and watch time pass me by. (in this time I wrote 'jazz n' shit'). in 2022 everything was lifted and I was finally getting noticed by musicians as this kick ass 18 year old drummer. all of a sudden I was constantly surrounded by people and the fundamental feeling loneliness was still lingering deep down under all the interactions id make in a day.
