Rizal  is a singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and instrument builder. Rizal creates unique music in combination with the ‘Rasendriya’, an instrument he invented and built that is a unique mix of didgeridoo, percussion and guitar.

About Rizal & the Rasendriya

Roaring, honest and endearing, Rizal Abdulhadi is a uniquely talented multi-instrumentalist, folk singer, songwriter, instrument builder and social activist from West Java, Indonesia. He dedicates his music and career towards creating real social change and promoting creativity; both in Indonesia and globally.

Rizal harnessed his knowledge of Bamboo material to develop his unique and innovative instrument called the Rasendriya. It combines guitar with didgeridoo and celempung (percussion). further exploring the use of bamboo for instruments, Rizal's latest project is his Bamboo Lapsteel Guitar & Strings instrument.

Rizal creates a unique style of folk music by combining ballads, rock, reggae and blues with eclectic ethnic rhythms. His lyrics sung with confidence in both Indonesian and English speak of travel, adventure, spirit, democracy and opportunity.

Since 2008, Rizal has toured extensively in Indonesia and played at major Indonesian festivals, including; Bamboo Nusantara World Music Festival, Braga Festival, Bali Spirit Festival (2015 & 2016), Ubud Writers & Readers Festival, Bali Vegan Festival, Festival Mata Air, Eco Music camp, and many more. Throughout which he has taken the opportunity to collaborate with many well-known Indonesian musicians.

In late 2012 Rizal has made waves on the international music scene, taking his musical and instrument building talents to South-East Asia and Australia. He has toured Australia twice and was fortunate enough to collaborate with Andrew Clemoth at Woodford Folk Festival 2013/14. In September 2014, Rizal was invited to be a guest speaker and performer to TEDx Ubud. The video of his performance was selected as a TED Talks Global Editor’s Pick and also featured as one of three “Weird and Wonderful TEDx Musical Performances” from TEDx conferences internationally. In 2015 Rizal was chosen as one of Bali’s 20 Inspirators by HelloBali Magazine in their 20th anniversary edition.

Rizal is currently based in Bali and due to release his latest album ‘HOPE’ in the second half of 2016. The album features collaborations with numerous artists from around the globe.

His single ‘Life & Love’ premieres in June.
