This recording was done with a LOM Geofón at Tystigbreen glacier in Stryn, Norway. I simply buried the Geofón in the snow hoping for the best. Turned out to be a great recording, although I had to push the gain quite a bit in post. In the beginning there’s a snowcat passing 300 meters away, and towards the end an airplane can be heard. These are reference sounds I left in the recording. Quite a lot of thuds from the moving glacier is heard during the recording.

I love the remixes. For this one I used all 20 seconds of Madamme Cell's and 1 second of Castrillo's track to create a beat. 
The other 29 seconds of Castrillo's I faded in to use as a swelling drone through out. 
With J. Surak's track I repeated the last 6 or 7 seconds to create a drone. I then opened it in a separate audacity window, added a time track and used the envelope filter to created a sliding pitch shift effect. I also in parts used the pitch change effect to get an even lower growl. 

The picture is a collage of Surak's and Madamme Cell's album covers that I then databent with audacity.

This Reminds Me Of The Dentist (disquiet0111-actsofcommons)

After downloading and cutting out the needed parts I stated working with the sources in Borderlands, iDensity and Samplr on my iPad...transferred them back into Ableton Live for adjustment of panning, reverb and volume. Finely I decided to add the rumble: reversed and down pitched Horizontales  as well as Auto Tempo 1 .... a little mastering - done...

**Production Notes**

Honestly, it took me some time to get into the source material - I just couldnt find some interesting frequencies with the right punch. After 2 hours I had some hits, kicks and noises extracted and layed down some basic drum tracks in Ableton.

Then... no idea... no melodies... nothing came to mind. Fiddled around for another hour, then I concentrated on the sample from "Horizontales" and did some pulsating melody with Ableton Push. Pads, Bass and the rest came pretty quickly.  Mixed in a hurry (it‘s very late here and I want to go to bed.)

There were no other instruments added. Hope you like it!

Industry (disquiet0111-actsofcommons)

The rhythmic structure comes from Maddam Cell's "Auto Tempo 1" with a 4 bar sampling and loop.  Some EQ added.

The main melodic lines come from two passes of J. Surak's "Improvisation for Prepared Autoharp", both played in reverse with one at half speed and the other at quarter speed creating different pitches of the same sound sample.  Those weave and intertwine throughout. Some reverb added.

The background swells come from Juan Manuel Castrillo's "Horizontales" and serve as a thickening agent, adding more texture.

All samples were directly recorded to the Samplr app for Ipad and manipulated within.  No other sound sources were used in this track and the only changes come from added effects (EQ, some reverb, and in the "Auto Tempo 1" sample - some fuzz distortion.

My 33 1/3 series book about the Aphex Twin album <i>Selected Ambient Works Volume II</i> was published in 2014. The book was one of the top 5 bestselling titles for the calendar year, and in 2015 was ranked by Pitchfork as one of the "33 best" of the 100-plus books in the 33 1/3 series. It has subsequently been translated into Japanese (2019) and Spanish (2018)

Since 2012 I have moderated the Disquiet Junto group, which began on SoundCloud. More at disquiet.com/junto. 

I've written for Nature, Pitchfork, The Wire, Down Beat, Boing Boing, NewMusicBox, Red Bull Music Academy, Art Practical, the website of The Atlantic, and many other publications. 

I've exhibited sound art at galleries in Los Angeles (Crewest), Manhattan (apex art), and Dubai (DUTAC), and I had a audio-visual installation at the San Jose Museum of Art as part of its 45th anniversary.

And since 1996 I've run the website Disquiet.com about the intersection of sound, art, and technology.
