This recording was done with a LOM Geofón at Tystigbreen glacier in Stryn, Norway. I simply buried the Geofón in the snow hoping for the best. Turned out to be a great recording, although I had to push the gain quite a bit in post. In the beginning there’s a snowcat passing 300 meters away, and towards the end an airplane can be heard. These are reference sounds I left in the recording. Quite a lot of thuds from the moving glacier is heard during the recording.

Entangled Listening

Last night I took my dogs for a walk around the neighborhood and passed by this beautiful tree in a small park near the church. The branches were swaying in the wind, brushing against each other and creating the most delicate sounds — if you listen closely, you’ll hear them beneath the wind and chirping birds.

Around 3 minutes in, the church bell strikes 8.

I placed a pair of LOM Uši microphones between the lower branches, connected to a Sound Devices MixPre-3 II, and left them there for the duration of the recording.

Gain was adjusted slightly in post — otherwise, the sound is untouched.
