I'm incredibly excited to release my first original track as RJ Blue. The production on the instrumental took months to complete starting in early 2020, with emphasis placed on each element providing a consistent flow throughout - something that I really hope you can appreciate upon listening. I wanted to bring elements of Synthwave, Synthpop, and Complextro to the table on this one. Meredith was the perfect voice and songwriter for this record, and I think that her work speaks for itself. I'm incredibly thankful that she jumped on this record!

This track is not only a nod to the music that I love, but the evolution in my journey as an artist. I hope that this song lifts you up, even when sometimes it may feel like you don't have the support of anyone else, including yourself.

You Know Where marks the start of my album release process which I have been working on for the last 5 years.  It was a goal of mine to move to the West Coast of the United States to continue telling my story and creating new memories.  The first few weeks after finally making the move, I constantly reflected and meditated on how this would effect the previous relationships I had with others and myself, and even relationships I wanted to happen but never quite got off the ground in ways that I initially hoped and envisioned.  As we all embark on our own journeys of growth and self discovery, I hope that our paths will cross again in a new light.  Until then, you know where to find me.

Bringing back the 2010's indie pop/rock/electronic vibes.  So grateful that Andrew jumped on this track and it's finally out.  The lyrics tell the story of the night that Andrew met his wife, deciding to take a risk, go downtown, and talk to a girl that he thought was out of his league.  Some stories do have happy endings!  Also love the nuances of the bands we grew up on getting shout out in the lyrics. Happy Valentine's day!  I love how the worlds of live instrumentation and have electronic sounds come together to create a universe that really does this story justice!  Lesson - Take that risk and put yourself out there!

After hearing the new album that Logic dropped last week, we knew we had to put our spin on this track.  Soooo we got together on a sick man date via facetime, and as men of action, we did just that!!!  Chris Varvaro and I tried to make the hardest song that we could.    

Although this isn't necessarily a reflection for where I want to take my sound, I secretly, or not so secretly for those that can hear my headphones leak, love hard trap music.  Maybe you'll hear this edit at your favorite festival this summer, who knows?  Lots of music coming your way this summer, and excited to kick off this chapter!

FUN FACTS:
1) Chris and I used to go to the same college, and our fraternity houses were right next to each other.
2) I have one of the slowest pint chugs in town!
3) Chris is a mediocre Flip Cup Player!

Logic - Still Ballin' ft. Wiz Khalifa (Chris Varvaro x RJ Blue Remix)

I got the stems for this song, and immediately was drawn to the romantic, but not really romantic nature of the lyrics.  It reminded me of a wild Saturday night out on the town and the subsequent reflection the next morning after a weekend of partying.  I tried to capture a vibe that you can just zone out to on your hungover uber ride home.  

I heard this song initially on a cold, rainy, windy day in Scotland and as soon as I heard the piano chords, I didn’t necessarily feel happier, but knew I had to give my touch.  The song sat on my laptop for a few months, and after listening to it on loop for what seemed like weeks straight, I thought about docking it, but ended up sending it to Chris to see if he had any ideas thankful for his objective listening in this instance.

PS - Do the spanish guitars make you wanna dance, cry or call your crush?

FUN FACTS:
1) This is the 4th song Chris and I have released together.
2) One of us was an extra in the original season of Jersey Shore.
3) We never said we didn't cry while watching The Notebook.

Matoma - Sunday Morning ft. Josie Dunne (RJ Blue x Chris Varvaro Remix)

I heard this song in its original form on youtube shuffle back in March, and immediately was drawn to the vocals and minimalist that the song was built around.  Everything from the artwork, to the chord progression, to the songwriting had a "crisp" and "dark" vibe to it.  Mahalo and DLMT are both rapidly rising artists in the house genre, and its not long before they'll be a staple on festival lineups, and you should definitely check out their other music.

I made use of the Korg Monopoly, the Arturia Jupiter 8-V, and the Tal u no lx, in order to create the analog feeling I strived for and build off of the pre-existing chord progression, to add dark french house undertones.  Ultimately, this song went through many renditions until I was entirely happy with both drops.

Getting to put my spin on this song is just as exciting as a stripper giving you her real number, taking a bath with your favorite Yankee Candle, or the Mets relief pitchers not actually blowing a game.  Hope that you enjoy.

When you take perfection, like lets say Josephine Skriver (Victoria's Secret Angel) and put some Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough on top = It's ideal!  And you know what they say, "if she's good on top, that's not something to take for granted..." 

Blink 182, The Killers and Wiz Khalifa were my middle school life.  Through the times when I thought I was bound for the Dew Tour on a skateboard, and MTV was lining me up for a "Life of Ryan" sequel in my name, I turned on my first generation iPod and tuned out the world and listened to the artists of the early 2000's.

Tom Delonge has one of the most unique vocal styles ever, and is remembered for his trademark super aggressive strumming technique.  Travis Barker may be the best drummer of all time.  Mark Hoppus serves as the perfect compliment  and the musical glue in songwriting process.  You gotta love Blink 182.  Are you as excited as I am for the new Blink tour?

I wanted to blend my retro 80's style with melodic dubstep and make you feel like this song was playing in the credits of a cheesy coming of age movie (SIDE NOTE: love those), combine that with "Forever Young-esque" pads, and some Pop-Punk drums and whal-ahh!

FUN FACTS:
1) My first pets name was Nemo and it wasn't a fish.
2) El is keeping the door three inches open so she doesn't have use of her powers.
3) Mullets are back.

Blink 182 - Always (RJ Blue Remix)

On the fourth of July weekend, my friends and I were watching an episode of Black Mirror around 4 in the morning.  *Side Note* Notice the effort I put into the alliteration there.  After a couple white claws, burgers, and a day in the pool, this song comes on in the episode. *Side Note 2* There wasn't really any alliteration there.

My brain immediately flips from living in the brain simulation that the show presents to an immediate party situation.  The flip was harder than KD bailing on the Knicks.  But lets get real, he was never going there anyway.

I wanted this remix to feel like Stranger Things met the sweaty dance floor at a fraternity party, without all of the fist bumping awkwardness.  The chord progression in this song is iconic, and the key change before the third drop is legendary, providing the perfect interlude for a Phil Collins-esque  drum line.  Yes, the Tarzan soundtrack is up there with Carly Rae's and Owl City's collaboration as the hardest shit of all time.

Thank you so much to The Midnight for the opportunity to remix this record. 
Tylers' vocals are incredible as always, Tims' production is on point, the melodies are perfect and you just gotta love the world that this record lives in.

Imagine you're attending a party in Bladerunner, the year is not 2049, but 3169.  You're at a party, some skyscraper in a futuristic edition of Los Angeles.  You missed the pregame, you gotta catch up, but Tequila doesn't exist anymore. Wait check that - that's not right, they just ran out at the party.  You look around for your friends... Theo... don't see him... Ted... where's he at?  You stand awkwardly at some type of hologram hors d'oeuvres table - alone.  Shit - its your crush from the year 2020.  Think. You're down big, no confidence - so throw in your PearPods - put on this track, and begin the Tom Brady 2-minute drill.  It's all in the recovery, in The Comeback Kid.  Pound your chest a few times like a frat-bro after a mediocre beer funnel, go talk to them, and party like its your first day out of quarantine.

Serious note: The Midnight are one of my favorite groups of all time, and The Comeback Kid is one of my favorite songs that they've done to date.  In a lot of ways I think that we're all the comeback kid in a sense, my self included.  I remember discovering this song on a train ride back from boarding school my senior year of high school.  I distinctly remember it playing in the lead up to Penn Station, and staring out the window of the train.  The notion of being a comeback kid plays into that idea of the perseverance, strength and overcoming something, but the implication is also there that you were once down.  I hope this song brings you back to the days of being a kid, and lifts you up.

I had this thought the other day that synthwave is how people of the 80's imagined the music of the future would sound.  But really synthwave is our present day imagination of what we think futuristic music of the 80's would sound like.
