From Robag Wruhme’s first releases on Freude am Tanzen you can already find it: this light-footed rhythm. Like a Huckleberry Finn, hopping through the world on one leg – a native alien, a familiar stranger. A cosmonaut, floating in weightless orbits from capsule to capsule. With playful lightheartedness, Wruhme takes synthetic sounds and sampled noises, cuts them to fit, and turns them into beats without his music ever sounding pieced together: every single percussive sound is a compact unit, always bursting with melody, or at least pointing the way towards it. For Venq Tolep, his first album-length release on Pampa Records in eight years, this is exactly where Robag Wruhme chooses to dig deeper, expanding the space of these elements. He finds beats inside the beats, opens them up even further, discovers hooklines and harmonies and feels where he can ultimately dispense with rhythms entirely.

Alina Izolenta and Kamil Ea, the duo more formally known as PTU, present their debut album Am I Who I Am on трип.

The origins of PTU can be traced back to the early 00s, which found the duo spending their formative years experimenting with analog synths and sharing music onto each other’s hard drives. The physicality of this approach went on to have an immeasurable effect on their aesthetic, which bears an unmistakable live feel - rich with improvisation and surprises. 

A relatively sparse discography might mislead you from the fact that they have over a decade of experience delving into the strangest depths of analog hardware and jamming on obscure synths. A brief 2016 appearance on the трип concept album When I was 14 was followed by the emergence of ‘A Broken Clock Is Right Twice A Day’ - a stand out track on Nina Kraviz’ fabric 91 mix - which went on to become the title track for their highly acclaimed 2017 debut EP. Now, the duo present their singular, uncategorisable take on electronic music across a full length album.

Assimilating references to techno and IDM, but placing them in far less familiar structures, PTU’s productions breathe life into precise rhythmic patterns with equal doses of energy, experimentation and humour. Their music (just about) files under techno, but their approach to composition rejects genre boundaries of any kind, opting instead for a free-form exploration of the weird and wonderful.

Across twelve tracks, they cut and chop their way through frenetic marching drums and spiralling acid leads, awakening an army of malfunctioning robots as they go. Whilst Am I Who I Am boasts a vast spectrum of bizarre ideas - often introduced at high velocity - each one is executed with a skillful dose of restraint, summoning energy from microscopically detailed arrangements. From the angular maximalism of ‘Castor & Pollux’ to the eerie polyrhythms of ‘After Cities’ and the relentless hammer drills of ‘Sirocco’, PTU find life in the most extraordinary of places.

Following on from a series of stand-out appearances on трип, Am I Who I Am is a thrilling voyage into techno’s strangest sector.

@Synkro decided to take the tune directly to the heart of the dancefloor. With noticeable influences from drum & bass and autonomic music, he stretched the deep pulse of the original song and gave it a consistent rhythm to stand on, taking the deep wintery tone of the original, into an entirely new territory, the 2am of a London dancefloor perhaps. However fast the song’s tempo seems, the tune maintains a 2-step slower dynamic making it equally listenable at home as well a dancefloor starter. In his usual fashion, Synkro does it again, effortlessly combining the deep chill sounds with dancefloor beats, making this track another masterpiece by the UK born artist.

Souns - Sun Inside The Sun (The Remixes)’ is a collection of 4 unique reworks of Souns’ original song ‘Sun Inside The Sun’ taken from the Aquamarine album originally released on December 2017. It's forthcoming on Subtempo, and will be out in May 31st.

Heralding on relationships that have developed over the years, @michaelred handpicked @synkro, @loscil and @phaeleh to remix his ambient material that he composes under the @souns-3 alias. Michael has shared the studio, or the stage with all three of them in multiple occasions, making this collaboration a natural continuation of their work together.

When DJ Python first came up with the term "deep reggaeton," it sounded like a bit of a joke, but as the years have passed and this unique NYC producer has continued experimenting with slowed-down dem bow rhythms and introspective melodies, his seemingly tongue-in-cheek descriptor now feels more appropriate than ever. On June 10, he'll be linking up with the Dekmantel label for the first time for a new EP called 'Derretirse.' Ahead of its arrival, we debuted the floaty synths and subtly booming beats of "pq cq" on Red Bull Radio's First Floor, our weekly look at what's new in electronic music.

The track seemed endless, it spun each competitor round and round in a circle as they ran between flickering white lines. He began to feel breathless as he ran, only another 100 times round to go. In the distance he could hear the rumble and cheers of the crowd as their echoes travelled upon the mid afternoon breeze. To them this was just another spectator sport, not something that they'd lived or dreamed about in any sense of the word. They knew not of the late nights beneath the floodlights, the burning rubber or the miles which had been amassed across a decade or more. This was pain, pure breathless pain. 

JQ is set to release a new album on Lo Recordings, a dreamy affair with moody soundscapes and intricate sculpture throughout. It's intriguing and promising. "Outside" will be available from the 26th of July.
