Limbus

A Series of Transgressions

Produced on Deflemask for Megadrive.  Intro track for my forthcoming album, Aerocaptivity.

This track was my first composed for Mega Drive (Sega Genesis). Originally released in November of 2018, it has since undergone a bit of extra processing in its most recent iteration beyond the Mega Drive's own stereo capabilities. As of September twentieth of 2019, the track available here has undergone further processing, stemming from its conversion into multiple and discrete tracks of PCM and reintegrated into a more dynamic stereo and spectral staging otherwise impossible for the integrated mix of the console and its soundchips. This process was meant to accentuate the character of those chips at a deeper level than mere presentation or representation. 

The original and unembellished version of this track remains intact in the context of its accompanying video, which showcases's its production within Deflemask (available here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCRwdGT2DXQ), but the original in its properly VGM format will be made available upon future release of the album.

Ghastly Shears

My first track with ORCΛ and my DAFM synth, chambered in YM3438.  This one is fairly distinct from my usual fare but yet another interesting way in which my ventures into new chip terrain yield unforeseen results.

Grim Tide

MNSD014.06 -> drive upon the frigid air of such rarefied and riling rivers of heavenly vantage and stifling heights. 

This was an experimental recording utilizing the littleBits synth kit across four tracks and four sessions on the Tascam 424 mkIII cassette recorder in February of 2019. The recording was subsequently committed to PCM the following June: first via the 424's stereo mix; then again via each of the four tracks discreetly. This resulted in a slight bit of transposition in the final mix which I opted to retain to a slight degree (something originally owed to the equipment constraints at the time of digitization, incidentally already overcome at the time of the final mastering) in July having settled on the mastering technique I would employ across all 4track recordings.

Tried recording to 4track cassette for direct Mid/Side encoding, rather than the usual Mono to L/R mixing strategy and also thought it could be interesting to saturate VCV Rack's sound by recording it to cassette.

Some lazy afternoon improv with ye olde Tascam 424mkIII and the NerdSEQ tying together the SID Guts and my littleBits synth kit.

cesiumChar

A later addition to the most seminal album by Moonside's protoculturalist,  this track emerged as a fast and hard 8-bit crack at rhythmic powernoise, inspired by adrenal fueled strike-operations.

A bit of noodling about with the Befaco Rampage serving as both VCO and LFO  and running a couple of its outputs as voices through various stereo effects (a Vult filter and distortion, an Alright delay, and a Plateau reverb), modulating Tides with more Rampage outputs (and attenuating that with MIDI CC), and having Tides modulate certain of the effects modules.

The beginnings of something.

All voices produced by the OPN2C via the DAFM Synth, half overdriven in the RX2, processed in parallel with the Lyra8-FX using GTG-Rack's line of modular mixers in VCV Rack (with panning being modulated by the Lyra8-FX's delay output), and the DAFM being controlled by a battery of sequencers in VCV Rack over MIDI (mainly Orca's Heart with some of its own parameters being modulated by Geodesics Entropia and Ions, along with one channel's gate being passed through an address sequencer prior to being sent out through MIDI).

I intend to produce a more arranged and differently mixed version of this track eventually.
