where are you from?

i’m from gaza.

no, i’m native.

what do you do?

i make art for the generations after me.

in your opinion, can art liberate palestine?

no. art is an ally to liberation and not the liberator. art is the heart and mind’s map to truth and justice.

and how did you learn this?

i learnt this when i lost my way in the cruel diaspora and my people are very affectionate.

do you want to go back home?

of course. i’m actually upset the occupation robbed me of being born in my homeland.

what is your biggest wish?

a free palestine and for my art which will outlive the generations of my babies’ babies to tell the story of how the diaspora lived in resistance.

do you have any final words?

yes. don’t register me as an arab, register me as palestinian and my soul is forever free from the river to the sea.

One of Melbourne's most longstanding & prolific mainstays for this week's Animix -@pjenne. Host of Passing Notes, on beloved community radio station PBS;  incredibly talented DJ , & co-founder of @companionmelb alongside another favourite, @millu .
 
Penny is an authentic example of what Melbourne and it's community look like.  She's been actively involved in the scene from all corners for a long time now - whether it be headlining parties & major fesivals (locally and abroad),  solo or alongside her DJ sister Millu; or running her beautifully curated weekly radio show which often highlights the incredible plethora of talented local DJs we have here in Australia. Alongisde Millu she also co-runs the increidble local output @companionmelb - which has seen epic releases from local artists, including Acopia, Kita and more.  

When i was first learning to DJ, it was inspiring to see women in the scene like Penny - an intelligent and driven powerhouse with loads of talent & taste to back it up - & most importantly, unashamedly herself.  Penny has a very distinctive style and has been instrumental in paving the way to what is now seen in the current global electronic music community as the "Australian sound" - even more importantly, as an early leading female figure. A local gem!

The people say 30 is big, tho its feeling just right to be carried by this special live recording of Angus Mills’ set from Soma Festival 2026 - A weekend in the bush that will forever sit close to the Moonshoe heart.

The unruly clash another beloved VIC bush gathering, Hopkins Creek, meant I couldn’t make it to this year’s edition of Soma.. But am deeply grateful to be transported into the hills of Wiradjuri Country through this recording. 

Lifted, bouncy rhythms weave in and out of deeper, dreamy introspections - laced with weight that you can almost hear echoing off the hills around the Soma shades. Hopefully those who weren’t there can also feel a little of the magic through this… and that those who were, can be taken straight back . More Angus on Moonshoe ~ out very soon !

On the first day of the new year, we kick off 2026 with absolute sonic precision. Our 100th mix captures a live recording of Objekt (@keinobjekt) at the PURE G event in FINAL Taipei, a fitting document of an artist widely regarded as one of the most formidable of our generation. Objekt is TJ Hertz, a Berlin-based producer and DJ whose background is as multifaceted as his sound: born in Tokyo to British-American and Filipino parents, raised between Belgium and the UK, and settled in Berlin in 2009. He first turned heads with the self-released white-label 12"s Objekt #1 and #2 in 2011, before a string of defining releases on labels such as Hessle Audio and a remix for Radiohead. Tracks like “Cactus,” “Unglued,” “Agnes Demise,” and “Ganzfeld” didn’t merely shake dancefloors—they rewired them, introducing a generation of clubgoers to a sound that felt both violently disassembled and eerily controlled.

Listening to Objekt is like watching a vast structure built from nanomachines collapse and reassemble in real time. His music reveals an almost pathological obsession with spatial depth and sonic texture—precision so severe it borders on the cruel—yet within the fractured grids and skewed rhythms pulses a startling vitality. Cold digital signals are transmuted into something fiercely alive, futuristic without losing its physical impact. This approach earned early admiration from figures such as Aphex Twin and Autechre, led to a split EP with Drexciyan pioneers Dopplereffekt (with “Ganzfeld” crowned Resident Advisor’s #1 track of 2014), and produced crossover moments like the breakbeat house anthem “Theme From Q” on Objekt #4. Even his slowest record to date, Objekt #5 (2022), twists dancehall rhythms into something unmistakably his own—measured, menacing, and exacting.

That same hyper-detailed vision extends to his album work on Berlin’s PAN label. Flatland (2014) and the landmark Cocoon Crush (2018) treat the LP as a canvas for immersive, hyperreal sound worlds—synthetic simulations of splintering wood, dripping caverns, and insect wings that trigger an acoustic uncanny valley, at once familiar and alien. Pitchfork awarded Cocoon Crush an 8.0, praising it as containing “some of the most meticulously arranged compositions that dance music has ever produced,” and the project later evolved into a full-spectrum live A/V show with visual artist Ezra Miller, touring festivals such as Unsound, Atonal, and Primavera. Parallel to this, Objekt has built a fearsome reputation as a DJ: crowned Mixmag’s DJ of the Year in 2018, capable of guiding a room through half a dozen genres or plunging it into a psychedelic wormhole of self-discovery with surgical precision. His 2016 mix CD for Tresor, Kern, Vol. 3, was described by Resident Advisor as “a window into the very essence of DJing.” 

Underpinning it all is relentless quality control, a genre-agnostic ethos, and a deeply technical mind—honed not only in clubs and studios, but also through his ongoing work as an engineer at Native Instruments, developing audio and machine-learning algorithms. In Objekt’s world, rational calculation and visceral intensity are not opposites, but twin forces locked into a singular, unmistakable circuit. With the launch of his own label Kapsela, he continues to conjure dancefloor weapons that are both fiercely experimental and immaculately detailed, carving out a singular sonic circuitry where rational calculation and visceral intensity collide.

Entering 2026, we begin with the long-awaited HYPNO Sounds VOL.15 mix. With VOL.16 on the horizon, this felt like the perfect way to set the tone — a local legend currently plying his trade in London.

He has been a pivotal figure in the post-COVID rebuilding of hypnotic techno in Sydney/Eora, helping raise the standard and quality of DJing through his refined taste, expert ear, and ability to move any dancefloor with intention.

That person is none other than Zac Walls - former co-founder of local crew Obfuscate, alongside fellow comrade Ben.

Zac shares a deeply aligned ethos with HYPNO around how techno parties should be run - intentional, respectful, and sound-first. Beyond that, he’s an exceptional mixer and a true staple of the Sydney/Eora scene. 

His style is warm, elastic, and hypnotic, with trippy textures and groove forming the backbone of his journeys. This mix is a perfect example:  refined, intelligent, and deeply immersive.

We’d also like to thank every artist who contributed a mix in 2025. HYPNO Sounds exists to broadcast the local and international journeys that make up the fabric of what HYPNO is. So for all contributions – we thankyou for all your efforts and incredible journeys. 

For now though, enjoy this masterful journey from Zac.
