Studio dB Berlin is starting a podcast series called “sdbx”
For the first episode, Vincent Vidal, curator of sdbx, recorded an intuitive set under his new alias “protodub”
Interested in dub through his sound system engineer skills, the sound system culture has been a huge influence on him over the last years. Co-founder of studio dB, he’s taking care of sound and artistic direction on every level.
The mix naturally evolves through many genres, such as dub, dubstep, organic textures, finest jungle, and broken beats drawing a satisfying and challenging sonic composition to set the tone for future releases.
All artworks will be created over the flow by one of the other co-founders of dB, Rasmus Bell.
Nothing else but sharing the music and aesthetic that we love!

Where Hassell focused on creating ritual music of potential societies that _didn't_ exist; Ian Kim Judd seeks to evoke the notion of potential utopian societies that _could_ exist. In these times of global instability and uncertainty, Fifth World seeks to posit an alternative, with scenes from an optimistic future.

Aïra is the fruit of the alliance between several DJs and producers from Toulouse who are already involved in the local music scene, and from their meeting was born the shimmering desire to propose an alternative musical experience to clubbing, to focus instead on the creation of moments of softness, of slowness, a cocoon to gather, to wander and to find appeasement thanks to the music.
Aïra was conceived as a free space, where music would be sacred and contemplation its most beautiful offering. The collective open the doors of imagination one by one and wanna prove that sharing is the key to all possibilities

First, we introduced you the work of Lys, a french composer of electronic music. She's an organ player, dj and she produces music with electronic devices. The first peaces was  "Etude une" & "Aventure d'une promenade." Both of these electroacoustic songs arecomposed in 2018 for her class at the Toulouse Conservatory.  
"Etude Une"
It's a short study, elaborated only from concrete sounds recorded in studio with simple metallic objects: a triangle, a stainless steel salad bowl, a Tibetan bowl, marbles, a metal rod and a ventilation grid among others... This piece is built on 2 tracks, where the sound objects alternate, on very short or longer durations. The work show the symbiosis of the rhythmic games, spatialization and volumes.

"Aventure d'une promenade"
This second piece, longer, is an invitation to a walk in a fantastic world where we follow the granular speech of a sound object between fauna noises and he vagaries of the weather.
After these two pieces, she delivered us a djset of one hour of songs that describe a part of her universe.

After this set, we heard the work of Jan Loup. She composed this piece called Rising artificial sun by the afternoon. She created this piece during the lockdown in France and release it on the box of the collective Girls don't cry from toulouse.

The work of Jan Loup was followed by an original composition from UNDER/STANDING. This piece is a patchwork of his unrealesed tracks during the past two years. You can hear a 20 minutes recorded live session with additionnal songs : another ambient track from his past work and a post-rock song. It feels like his work is full of melancholy, empathy and will to find the beauty of the world.

Johanna OJ created the Soundtrack for a mysterious character locked in a glass castle that would float above the landscape of his life. to the tune of magical vocals, dub-aquatic sounds, and scattered basses that awaken inner anguish and make hearts implode

After the work of Johanna OJ, you heard a mix from Khey Mysterio, recorded at Dixmontel fest this summer for the ondorphine stage, a radio collective from France. The purpose of this set is an imaginary and revisited soundtrack of blade runner with some sentences that Khey Mysterio took from the book in french version. During the set, he spells the words of the book, and invite us to think about the link between the man and the machine "les androides rêvent ils de moutons électriques?". He also describes what a dystopia look alike.

After releasing a few recordings on smaller record labels in Germany and his own Cross Fade Entertainment Imprint, and being heralded as a favorite on John Peel's radio show in 1994, de Babalon signed to DHR in 1996, releasing a few EPs and later releasing his only full-length album for the label, If You're Into It, I'm Out of It in 1997.De Babalon was signed after he befriended label operator Alec Empire at a rave in 1994.

The album was well received and gained mostly positive reviews, with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke describing it as "the most menacing record [he] owns", but in sound was different to other DHR releases, offering a new vision of electronic music that varied greatly from that of artists such as Atari Teenage Riot and EC8OR, who used industrial sounds with hardcore punk and gabber influences. With the release of If You're Into It, I'm Out of It, de Babalon solidified his signature sound as a combination of extreme complexity in construction and complete experimentation in form. Songs span many electronic genres including noise, soundscapes, dark ambient, drum and bass and breakcore. Some of his tracks are also known for their length, lasting up to 15 minutes.

Since 2008, de Babalon has been releasing music more often, even reissuing rare unreleased tracks as a compilation via his own bandcamp page titled The Haunting Past of Christoph de Babalon, Vol. 1 in 2014. He issued his long awaited follow up studio album to If You're Into It, I'm Out of It, titled A Bond With Sorrow, digitally through Kid606's TigerBeat6 imprint in 2012. His fourth full-length album, Short Eternities, was issued in 2015 through Love Love Records.

In his review of the 2018 remaster 'If You're Into It, I'm Out of It', Philip Sherburne of Pitchfork concluded that "no one has ever made another record quite like this one".

When the topic of the combination of dark ambient and electronic music is brought up, many writers often bring up ‘If You're Into It, I'm Out of It’ and its significance.
