Celebrating 1 year of mixes from the legends of our scene.
Every Shade of Rave’s exclusive mix series is turning one this month and we will be celebrating with a set from one of Perth’s favourite Son’s, Gerard Eaton DJ PUFF, Perth’s Original Techno Maestro.
Bringing you a set from one of the most Humble and unassuming DJ’s in Perth. All round nice guy, Puff went about his craft like a stealth drone, always there, never making a fuss but when ever he got behind the decks you knew who was playing and what was coming your way.
Crafting and honing his skills at The Infirmary with Rhys Drongo Evans, Jeremy Junk (Whippy RIP), Dan the Man, Jacen etc... Puff was a resident DJ, local favourite and support for some of the most infamous events held in a Perth, including DJ Edge, Monday Madness and the Mindwarp series… needless to say, if you were a wanna be DJ, you would have sold a limb or a family member to trade places with him. Post Infirmary, Puff had a cult following and was a much sort after DJ, playing for Rhythm Method, heaps of one off gigs and was behind many one off parties and weekly nights under the moniker of “Natives of Space” to help keep the scene post infirmary, kicking along.
Writing a list of the DJs he’s supported would be a small novel and I’ll let you flick through the flyers we’ve posted so far to give a sense of how in demand he was and the calibre of his talent behinds the turntables.
Transmit was the game changer and being 100% focused purely on Techno, gave him the platform to really bring to life, the style he loved and this series of parties became an infamous part of the Techno scene in Perth.
Then As Delirium emerged and from the ashes of the rave scene, Puff was front and centre, featuring regularly on the bill of Plastic, Sonic, Science fiction etc etc…
If you frequented the Infirmary, you’ve heard Puff play and just like his sets back in the day, this mix is distinct, tough, seamlessly mixed. This one has been a while in the making and our dead set local legend, has dusted of the decks and put this slice of heaven together just for us.
This month as promised we are taking you back to Halcyon days of Perth Techno.

About:
Obscura marks the fifth full length studio album by Plaster excluding collaborative, live and split albums. Written between 2019 and 2022, Obscura is the result of a very deep research of Gianclaudio Hashem Moniri in both composition and sound design’s world. The fifteen tracks which build the album are splitted into two parts, A and 𝝮.
According to Gianclaudio, the concept of the compositions is based on the feminine world, to its darkest and brightest side, to Its power and delicacy but also refers to the death of Mahsa Amini in Iran and the following Iranian protests. The tracks are filled with elements of protest messages, words of hope, stories of femicide, fragments and tributes of the imaginary feminine world of Gianclaudio.
The sound is clearly a step forward into the Plaster’s production, we can hear a lot of new inputs, like poetry, distorted guitars, vocals used as the main instrument, but on the other side, Obscura brings back the memories of early works. There’s a lot of passion and cohesion between the tracks and this is not an album which aims for fast listenings or streaming skipping.
Obscura will be released by Textvra in spring 2023 via limited printed canvas (22 copies in memory of the age of Mahsa Amini) and worldwide digital distribution as well.

Carrying well over seventeen years of love for techno and performing experience with him, Invite is one of Holland’s few true household names. A modest perfectionist at heart, he translates his passion and drive into outspoken and highly versatile DJ-sets. Whether it’s opening deep and warm,closing rough and edgy, a small crowd or large setting Invite treats every gig with the same amount of diligence and respect.

When given carte blanche and an extended timeslot, something he much prefers, Invite is able to move a crowd like few others can.
His career has seen him perform at numerous events including Planet Rose, Imprint, Solid Grooves and Awakenings, festivals such as Awakefest, Free Your Mind and venues like Trouw, Paradiso and Doornroosje, on multiple occasions alongside the likes of Surgeon, Dave Clarke, Ben Sims and Jeff Mills. Invite’s reach doesn’t stop at the border however; he has played in Germany, Croatia, Slovenia, Scotland, Czech Republic, Austria, Estonia, France and Belgium and is looking forward to a lot more traveling.

Early 2011 has also marked the launch of his own podcast series, dubbed Invite’s Choice. Aiming to provide international techno artists with a sixty-minute platform to think 100% out of the box and record a set without any musical limitations, it’s quickly become one of the best weekly podcasts out there.

Honzo is the “evil twin” of D. Carbone, founder of REPITCH and Cosmo Rhythmatic (who released the recent Mika Vainio/Franck Vigroux album) together with Shapednoise and Ascion + the 3TH label (with Ascion and Lucindo).

While both examine noise and techno’s common ground, Honzo’s output is his brother’s introvert counterpart. The theme of the other half was inspected on “D. Carbone meets Honzo in a Bipolar Disorder”. Honzo’s following mini-album “Das Unheimliche” explored the spectres of Freudian thoughts. Psychology is again the topic on the release in question, third vinyl release for young imprint Arboretum.

The EP reflects over the state of “Melancholia”, a mental disposition that through its history at times has been associated with evil but more frequently as a tendency of the creative mind. As Heinrich Heine has famously questioned; is art an ailment of its creator? Illness or not, when shifting to the recipients’ perspective, what is described truly as art is highly individual, and the term “art” usually designates a rarity within life’s larger perspective much like finding a pearl in an oyster is most uncommon.

As Honzo he recently contributed to the “Replicants” compilation on (AnD and Tom Dicicco’s) Inner Surface Music and released a mini-album on Haunter Records earlier this year.
