"A travel between the best tracker producers that made me re-think my way to seeing and writing music. From AFX Druqks to the DIY genius Bogdan Raczynski passing through who today still uses them: Rolando Simmons alias Trackermatte, Goto80, Sully and many more.

Every track you hear in my mix was done between 1990 - 2022 in this software: Octamed, ProTracker, Jeskola Buzz, Renoise. Oliver Jones aka Skream one day said that Dubstep was 140 bpm because that was the original load up tempo on Fruity Loops 3. A lot of the music I write and listen to has many aspects that I think would be possible to create only on the magical vertical sequencer of a tracker!

The mix was recorded on Ableton in my bedroom here in Rome. When I make a mix I tend to mix genres and bpm, I don't follow a typical growing playlist I mix tracks like I'm selecting sound for a new song." - Pearl River Sound

I need to confess something immediately - this is a mix that has been lying around, gathering dust, on my HDD since 2013 really. Given my less than reliable methods of backup at the time, it's a bit of a miracle that this one has survived to the year of 2022. (My backup strategy has definitely improved a lot since then!)

What you are about to hear, is around 70 minutes of mid-late 90s melodic, jazzy, atmospheric 164 bpm jungle? drum&bass? Anyhow, the tracklist has been permanently imprinted into my brain, and I could probably wake up any morning and recite it from memory. That's how much I have actually listened to it in the past. And that's not really something out of the ordinary, as this mix does represent the essence of why I even started to love jungle/d&b in the first place.

So, without further ado, the tracklist:

On July 6th Tectonic recordings presents the game-changing second album by 26 year old Mancunian Sam Walton, better known as simply Walton. 
‘Black Lotus’ follows his inclusion on Tectonic’s landmark 100th release –  Riko Dan’s ‘Hard Food’ EP, plus the ‘Praying Mantis’/ ‘Koto Riddim’ 12” (also on Tectonic) and the ‘Taiko’ EP on Kaizen – the latter two of which hinted at the album’s sound, but didn’t fully prepare us for the brilliance to come.
 
Abstract electronics, grime, dubstep and new styles that don’t even have a name yet coalesce perfectly on this classic in the making. It finds Walton at peak power, reaching just as far (if not more so) than anything on the Pan, Different Circles, Boxed or Tectonic catalogues for pure futurism and new-terrain-traversing brilliance.
 
The album kicks off with ‘Black Lotus’, which makes it quickly evident that this isn’t just another generic long player; a weightless/sino style intro segues into a mystical kalimba line, which is then is enveloped by huge waves of synthesized, pitched-down brass.
