BDT Premiere: Fütwerk - Edge Of Darkness

This is a live recording, captured at Ego club in Düsseldorf, June 5 1999.  The music has been created with a self written step sequencer, the PX-18, controlling  a basic sample player and effects engine, all done in MaxMSP, running on a Powerbook G3. The step sequencer had some unique features, e.g. the ability to switch patterns independently in each track, which later became an important part of a certain music software.

I found the recording on a backup disk today. It has not been edited or mastered. During the first 20 minutes of the set, and before the 'encore' the Monolake CD 'Gobi' is playing in the background.

Luke Vibert 's new album under his increasingly-less-rare Kerrier District moniker is, quite simply, a corker – and we're delighted to offer up the first taster. 4  is everything we've come to expect from the Cornwall hero's forays into wonky boogie, a deliriously fun detour through the kind of elastic funk he pulls off with panache. It's no accident that a half-dozen tracks have 'disco' or some variation thereof in the title (we see you, "Discuntek").
It feels as if you could splatter them all together into a deliriously skippy mush; not to say that they're interchangeable, mind. The closing "Come On Kerrier" provides one last burst of energy, a pitched-up combination of 'Kerrier' and Vibert proper, gaudy and giddy and glorious. April 6th is when 4 drops via Hypercolour – dig out your 70s calendars and start marking the days.

"I remember around 4 or 5 years ago I started to discover electronic music in a greater form. Coming across EE mixes educated me a lot about music. Working as a night receptionist in Manchester Victoria Warehouse gave me an opportunity to bang the mixes out on the hotels sound system at night against my boss’s plea not to play techno at night. My favourite are (231) Dawn Day Night, (252) - Consequence and all-time favourite (237) Kangding-Ray.
I never thought I will be making one years later :) "

BIO
Vtorova began her musical career playing in punk and noise bands, but gravitated towards electronic music after picking up Ableton Live. After several cassette releases and an EP of abstract techno on Peder Mannerfelt’s label came last year’s brilliant Genau House, a record of dusky techno inspired by failed Tinder dates and being turned away from clubs in Berlin. In this set, Furtive dives into brighter, wigglier sounds, keeping the groove going to thumping house and a few fun asides.
