OUTLIER is a DJ currently based in Utrecht, Netherlands. Originally from Ecuador, he moved to the Netherlands in 2019 and began to DJ at the end of that same year. Since then, he has performed at multiple local events and recorded sets for different emerging collectives.Taking inspiration from DJ’s and producers such as Daria Kolosova, Francois X, Chlär and West Code, his style focuses on a mixture of groovy and hypnotic elements, putting an emphasis on layering multipe tracks through loops and samples. With a philosophy of “If I like it, I’m playing it” his sets are fresh and different but always stay trye to his passion for music and DJing.

AD 001 - JØNAS

To start off with a bang, my first guest is none other than JØNAS. First time I ever met him was back in 2022, it was by chance in a basement after party in the midst of Corona. That same day he showed me his first production which was already on a high level. Now as a student of the prestigious Herman Brood Academy his style has matured to a level of originality and finesse that is on par with veteran producers. 

“Pounding drums with hypnotic elements” is how he describes his style. I would also add electrifying and distorted synths to this description. With releases on labels such as: Darkground Records, Techno Wereld, Out Rage Records and Imminent; he is already leaving a mark on the electronic music world. If you ever wonder what the future of the scene will look like, just keep an eye on him. Luckily for us, the future looks very bright.

For our fourth entry, I am delighted to feature Utrecht-based Safari Stanga. With a combined 11 years of experience in DJing and producing, he, by all accounts, knows his way around the decks. His musical vision can be summarized by his own quote: “Listening to music should not always have to be a serious endeavor, and I hope to bring some of that excitement and joy to all who listen in!” With this, it is clear that he aims to keep you entertained and focused throughout all his mixes.

Safari has crafted his innovative and irreverent style, inspired by classical music, hip-hop, Brazilian funk, video games and movies soundtracks. He always keeps his audience engaged by creating an energetic experience through jamming with multiple decks and blending rhythmic techno, electro, and house melodies. In this mix, you can expect a range of sounds, from snappy breaks to mechanical kicks combined with bright melodies and dark percussions.

When I saw Safari DJing, his recklessness and simultaneous control of multiple decks and mash-ups on the fly inspired me to start incorporating a third deck and samples into my DJ routines. It is clear that DJing is not only his hobby but a real passion that will soon go beyond that.

Anomaly Detection 004 - Safari Stanga

For our next entry, we have Deviand. Hailing from Bulgaria, he knew that he wanted to make music his life since his teenage years when he got his first gear a Behringer djx 750. Deviand is truly a techno head and audiophile, having an affinity for any type of techno or music that is well-produced. As such, it is no wonder that when asked who would be his dream b2b partner, he picked Luke Slater, and Dekmantel as his dream festival to play at.

With roots in the industrial techno genre, his style has evolved into a mix of different sounds and genres. He describes his style as limitless, ranging from deep hypnotic melodies to groovy percussions to heavy and fast sub-basses. This is exactly what you can expect in this set, which is certainly a dark hypnotic trip from start to finish.

I personally believe that his passion and meticulousness in picking samples and tracks are to be celebrated. Plus, his hybrid setup makes his sets particularly unique. He is also a great b2b partner, if I may say so myself.

AD 002 - Lucas Bergen & JAMIE

For our second entry, I am delighted to introduce you to Lucas Bergen & JAMIE. This duo of DJs/producers have been playing together for one and a half years. Their inherited curiosity for making music marked the beginning of their journey. As they continued to dig and collect gems, this curiosity evolved into a burning passion for DJing and producing. With influences from Guy McAffer, Selective Response, Dax J, Hadone, and Eric Sneo, their style has evolved into a unique “Futuristic Hardgroove,” bringing the old and new school together into perfect synergy. Their mixing style features trancy, tribalistic, and hypnotic sounds, plus creative layering of rolling percussions through the constant use of four decks.

With the release of their first EP on the Los Angeles-based label “Crisis of Man” and their tracks being supported by the likes of Daria Kolosova, Grace Dahl, SPFDJ, Francois X, and many more, this duo is set to take the scene by storm in the near future. Personally, I would describe them as real gem diggers with a strong work ethic.

Anomaly Detection 005 - Ka Hol

Next up, we have Dublin's export, Ka Hol. Now based in Amsterdam, he began his DJing career in 2021. Like many of us, he started with a basic controller, playing around with ripped tracks. After being introduced to techno by peers and friends, he decided to take it to the next level and began producing in 2023. After making his first track, he was instantly hooked.

This unhindered artist is not only inspired by amazing producers such as Alarico, Toru Ikemoto, The Sixth Sense, and Cult, but also draws from unconventional sources like the soundtrack from 1994’s Blade Runner. These inspirations are evident in his unique style, where he mixes deep and hypnotic sounds with heavy, drum-based, groovy techno elements, all while featuring seamless 3-deck mixing that maintains a steady level of energy throughout his sets. He transforms tracks by layering multiple elements, resulting in a hypnotic, cyberpunk-inspired style that I personally enjoy a lot!

Personally, I think Ka Hol and I share a lot of similarities in terms of track selection, style, and mixing techniques. It was no surprise that as soon as I heard his mixes and productions, I immediately knew I had to have him in my AD series. With his tracks being supported by the likes of Technoslave_69, Tommy Holohan, and Zondax, and being featured at events in Maastricht, Amsterdam, and Portugal, you should definitely keep an eye on this lad and his collective, re:code.

The Struggler - Panels #2

After a long period of absence, I finally recorded the second chapter of my Panels Series. This is “The Struggler,” inspired by Guts, the protagonist of Berserk.

This set is very different from my regular style. I figured that to convey the wrath, resilience, and drive of Guts, Industrial Techno would be the best genre to do it. It features amazing producers from the genre and goes from 138 bpm to 148 bpm in an epic one-and-a-half-hour set. Anomaly Detection 006 - Astatine 

We have a really special guest for the 6th entry. I am delighted to introduce to Hungarian DJ and producer Astatine. This Budapest-based artist has a special connection with music, starting his musical journey by playing the violin and evolving into techno production, which he has been doing for 4 years now.

Astatine has crafted a playful but aggressive style inspired by the early hard techno sound. This raw style can be heard in his unique productions and the released tracks of his own label, RAVEU. With support from the likes of CTSD, ALIVEMAEX, SPFDJ, and Berlin duo Blame The Mono, and with releases on ENNEATRAX, Aktivv, and his own label, it is clear that he will have a promising future in our scene.

The first track I ever heard from Astatine was his release in Aktivv’s VA, Click, which sent me into a rabbit hole of his other productions. I was so impressed that I had to reach out to him for an AD set. Personally, I believe that Astatine is a clear example of how hard music should be: stylized, old-school, groovy, and fresh but familiar at the same time.

Anomaly Detection 007 - MAMBUCCA

Introducing MAMBUCCA, a powerhouse DJ/producer duo consisting of ChowwChoww and MINAS. MINAS began his DJ journey during the COVID-19 lockdown, honing his skills by crafting story-driven sets built on intricate percussion. ChowwChoww, inspired by a transformative night in Berlin in 2023, discovered his passion for blending hypnotic grooves with sound design. United by their Brazilian roots and a shared love for hypnotic, percussion-heavy techno, their chemistry was instant, leading them to form MAMBUCCA.

Based in the Netherlands, this duo grounds their sound in a unique fusion of rolling basslines, tribal grooves, and ominous atmospheres. In their DJ sets, you will always hear at least two tracks playing simultaneously, allowing them to seamlessly switch and layer, ensuring a constant evolution of energy that keeps the audience engaged. Their productions are inspired by Brazil’s rich sonic landscape, incorporating natural sounds and traditional drums. This distinctive style has caught the attention of labels such as Obscuur and the support of artists such as DECADANCE.

Personally, I believe these two DJs are incredibly passionate and versatile in both their production and DJing. I especially admire how they incorporate their roots into their music, making it more personal and unique. I’m grateful that MAMBUCCA has chosen Anomaly Detection as the platform to share their first podcast, and they’ve delivered an amazing set to live up to the occasion.

Inspired by artists like Tim Hecker, Luigi Tozzi, and Claudio PRC, Mario’s work showcases a balance of softness and forcefulness, delivering clean, hypnotic grooves. His releases on Presence Collective, Into The Abyss, and Stigma Tribale have cemented his place in the underground scene.

Anomaly Detection 008 - CALZO FM

I'm thrilled to introduce CALZO FM, an up-and-coming Glasgow-based DJ and producer whose journey into the electronic music scene has been nothing short of dynamic. Producing since 2022, CALZO's passion truly took off with the release of his EP Motor City Movement in 2023, an EP I’m a huge fan of and one I’d definitely recommend checking out.

CALZO blends Funk, UKG, Lo-fi, and House into a soulful, bass-heavy style. Using analog synth textures, layered drums, and resampled vocals, he crafts immersive soundscapes that are both deep and original. Despite his recent debut, he’s already earned three BBC Radio 1 features and support from DJs like DJ Love, with releases on Manana Electronic, MOTZ, Polish Techno.logy, and Solstice, signaling a bright future in dance music.

I’d describe CALZO with one word: underrated. His productions are truly unique and transcend genres, you can find techno, garage and much more when diving into his track catalog. While I enjoy all the mixes in this series, this one is definitely a standout. It embodies a duality, packed with summer anthems and gritty basslines that showcase his distinct musical character. Listening to it, I couldn't help but smile, feel uplifted and totally energized.

Keep an eye out for CALZO FM, he’s only just getting started and his talent is bound to make waves.

For our final entry this season, we present Kai Stein. Based in Utrecht, this talented producer has over 11 years of production experience, honed further at the prestigious Herman Brood Academy. His passion for electronic music began at 12 and solidified at 20, inspired by his brother’s encouragement to fully commit to his craft.

Kai’s style defies categorization. Rooted in raw, playful techno, old-school tech house, progressive house, and hypnotic techno, with influences from trip-hop, rock, and psychedelic lounge, his sound is uniquely “Kai Stein.” His sets often feature only his own productions, blending deep, tribal elements with human and natural textures.

With releases on Interweaved and multiple self-releases, Kai has earned support from industry heavyweights like Or:la, BASHKKA, De Sluwe Vos, and Brawther, cementing his place in the underground scene. A dream performance at Dekmantel would perfectly showcase his experimental, textured, and versatile sound.

I personally find Kai’s style to be something extraordinary: versatile, experimental, dark, and textured. It’s a sound that must be experienced firsthand, and there’s no better way to do so than through this new set.
