Fanfare for the Future - Robbert Vos (Brass Ensemble 15+4)

'Capriccio for Brass Band' is a lively, intense and virtuosic piece based on several thematical, rhythmical and harmonic ideas which are developed during the piece. It is non-programmatic and not based on a storyline.

The middle section is in contrary more in a minimalistic style where there is room to create a mysterious and open atmosphere. Rhythmical elements are quoted from the opening movement whilst clashing chords are used to build up tension.

The final movement builds up to a big climax where several of the compositorial ideas used before come together to a final close.

The piece won the International Brass Band Composer Competition in 2020 and was awarded both the Adjudicators Prize as the Audience Prize!

Capriccio For Brass Band - Robbert Vos (2020)

Solitary Prayer was commissioned in 2013 by the Dutch euphonium virtuoso Robbert Vos. He wrote Marco Pütz that he was looking for a quiet and slow composition in addition to his new CD program, and so the composer came up with the idea for ’Solitary Prayer’. The simple opening theme is first presented by euphonium and later by solo-cornet/flügelhorn. Then the slightly extended theme, complemented by a counterpoint in the euphonium, leads into a first tutti. After a further intervention by the soloist, a second, larger tutti passage with wide and grand chords follows, after which the composition is completed in a friendly atmosphere.
