When we released Thor's “Yellow Sky Over Reykjavík” on the first part of our “Icelandic Lost Tracks” series in 2010, we were proud beyond words to discover such an outstanding and still unreleased track from one of our heroes from the 90ies. 

We called the original a dancefloor-resetter, an expression which was also used more than onceby reviewers and press-people when writing about the release. 

When we decided to do the Iconography series with its wonderful artwork, split in four parts and illustrated by Julia Humpfer, we knew we had to use this bomb for it, but also that we have to choose the remixers wisely. 

After making the right choice with Tuff City Kids and Lake People as remixers for Chymera's classic “Caprica Burning”, the first part of our Iconography Series, we apparently also had the right instinct with Prins Thomas and Baikal for Thor's “Yellow Sky Over Reykjavík”. Both interpreted the tune in a very personal way, but with full respect for the original parts. Two directions, two anthems. Nuff said!

"Super Flu - Volkwein (Kollektiv Turmstrasse Remix)" - out today on Monaberry!!

After the unbridled success that was "Volkwein", Super Flu's collaboration with The Dortmund Philharmonic, the always on point Monberry label now revisits the package with the help of some fine contemporary remixers, namely Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Monkey Safari and Bebetta.

Super Flu, aka Herzblut Recordings regulars and German pair Felix Thielemann & Mathias Schwarz, really conjured up some magic with the original so these remixes, which reinterpret in fine style, are more than welcome.

First up are Kollektiv Turmstrasse, a rare act that infuse their sound with something more - extra soul, depth and meaning. On their remix of the title track, they go for a trademark deep, brooding and slowly unfolding vibe with subtle synth modulations, buried drums and a rising sense of tension.

The curious and off kilter German duo Monkey Safari are up next. First they rework 'Bratzke' with a sensitive sense of touch. Underlapping, rubbery drums roll below churchy and hymnal chords. Softly spoken vocals add intimacy and you can see this one really making for quite a moment on the right dance floor. Secondly, they serve up a digital bonus remix of the same track that makes less use of the vocal and places plenty of emphasis on their lush arrangement and true sense of musicality.

Lastly we have Bebetta, a playful producer who infuses her music with charming melody and a real sense of personality. She has also recently won the Tresor Newcomer Award for her impressive DJ sets around Berlin. Her version of 'Volkwein' is patient and spacious. Glowing harmonically it soothes mind body and soul with playful patterns and clever use of filters.

This EP is an elegant and magical release that proves house music can be so much more than a physical and functional thing, and can instead stir real emotion when in the right hands.

The second part of the „Diorama“ remixes offers again some of the finest producers around. Starting with Kollektiv Turmstrasse! What kicks off as a Chez Damier groove makes the transition into a loose dub monster. Collecting traces of the original sound and dispersing them with magic movements we see why Kollektiv Turmstrasse are a top act. Shifting the attention from the front to the far back from the obvious to the abstract... Turmstrasse create that parallel groove on top of the groove which seems to tighten up with every minute. Fine particles of sounds are sprayed onto the relentless groove and make it a real crowd pleaser.

After admired releases on Poker Flat and of course Connaisseur, things were a bit quiet around Patrick Chardronnet. These days are over now! Patrick returns with a big bang offering this wonderful double a-side on Connaisseur Recordings and opens a new chapter of his delightfully, trippy & emotional adventures. Enchanting, mesmeric and deeply touching, these two up-building tracks are reinforcing Chardronnet’s  hypnotic side once again.  

Boggler is a simple and reduced spacer that features wonderfully processed drums and an endless arpeggio hypnosis. The track works highly effective only with a few elements until the beat comes back after a massive break. Underlined with a strong sub-bassline, the whole track starts to fly away and is taking the whole dancing crowd with on its journey.

Eve By Night – a counterpart to “Eve By Day”, Patrick’s biggest hit so far, starts rather smoothly and upbuilding. Then the track turns to a skipping, complex and meandering monster, which is jacked-up with some dirty hats and a playful synth theme. The theme deconstructs more and more and a logarithm assembles the parts of the theme to a new and unexpected melody experience. Sophisticated !

Only five releases away from the 100th, Rodriguez Jr. delivers on the 095 with a generous 4-track, digital only edition titled "Muppet Anthem".

The self-titled number makes up the first track on the EP with a pleasant array of upbeat house-party elements and groovy vocals making this piece of work totally dance-floor worthy in the heat of the summer.

Seething down to the second track, "Ocean Drive" takes it down a notch by starting the track with exotic and tropical elements as it progresses into a high peak of faster beats and steady keyboard strikes. Its a number that will leave your feet grounded as your swaying shoulders and bobbing head lead the dance.

"Satellite" comprises the third number an emotional hymn bursting with soulful vocals and periodic tambourine jingles and jangles. Enjoy this eye closer preferably with your head back and arms reaching towards the sky.

Closing out the set is "Palo Alto", a high tempo number with various calculated beats one setting off the next. Crying vocals wrapped in multi-faceted elements will leave even your goosebumps dancing.

The French producer/DJ has a stupendous track record with mobilee and its sister label, Leena. In 2011 he released his very first album titled "Bittersweet" on the mobilee imprint. The summer of 2012 has seen weekly gigs throughout Europes favorite beach bars and waterfront clubs with Rodriguez Jr.
