The Nebula collapses, its presence somehow drawn into the obsidian stone. With the anomaly now contained, The Astronaut feels a sense of calm resonate across the galaxy.

The Astronaut now turns their thoughts toward home. Having been displaced by The Nebula, they have not seen another life form since departing their world.

Thank you so much to everyone that has listened to, liked, commented, and messaged me since I started uploading my noise to SoundCloud! Your encouragement has meant so much to me, and I have tremendously enjoyed exploring all of the aural worlds that others have shared on this platform.

I always wanted to try recording my own tracks and learn more about synthesis, but I was scared of how people would respond, and I've never thought of myself as very musical. When I first started this page, I described it as a sonic journal; a way for me to explore sound design, composition, and audio production.

Since so much of my electronic music inspiration is from video games, I thought it would be fun if I wrote a little story to go with each of my tracks. A lot of my earlier uploads focused on a character I simply called 'The Astronaut'. There wasn't much of a theme. Just a lone wanderer traveling through space, doing sci-fi adventure things. I started making up this whole little universe in my head while making those tracks, and I wanted to attempt composing a series that told a whole story about the character's origins.

In many ways this was my own story as well. I recorded and uploaded all of the tracks on this album as I composed them. For every follow up, I challenged myself to try new techniques. I have learned a lot from making these tracks, and it has been a really rewarding experience!

This album, soundtrack, or whatever it is, has ended up being exactly the sonic journal I imagined it as. A lot of the story beats follow my own life in the last year. Ranging anywhere from the excitement of starting this new journey in sound, the isolation of the pandemic, starting a new job, and just the general highs and lows that go with life.

The celebration of the Autumnal Equinox, Harvest Home, Mabon, the Feast of the Ingathering, is a modern Pagan ritual of thanksgiving for the fruits of the earth and a recognition of the need to share them to secure the blessings of the Goddess and the God during the coming winter months. The name Mabon was coined by Aidan Kelly around 1970 as a reference to Mabon ap Modron, a character from Welsh mythology. My version, for two Irish whistles, guitar, and accordion.
The “Londonderry Air” first saw print in 1855, in a collection from the “Society for the Preservation and Publication of Ancient Irish Music.” The “Danny Boy” words were added later – by an Englishman! -- in 1926. Both tune and lyrics are hence firmly and unalterably in the public domain safe from even the most well-funded efforts at copyright extension by the likes of the Wokey Mouse Club and Sonny Bono’s widow Cui.
My long-term listeners may be surprised (hopefully pleasantly) that I would do something like this. But really, it is one of the finest and most exquisite melodies anywhere, even if the smart-ass brat who still lives inside me can’t resist transmogrifying the title into a song of praise for the ladies of the evening of the British capitol: London Derrière!
