There's been some big changes in my life recently and I made this to blow off some steam with some slamming kicks. It's probably the most pounding mix I've ever done. Starts more experimental then into mostly techno that gets spicier and spicier. Had a lot of fun finding synergies and switching up vibes. Danced a lot. It was supposed to be 60 mins but I peaked too soon and didn't know how to continue. Story of my life.

HARD/MAXIMAL/CATHARTIC

This mix is the polar opposite of HARD/MAXIMAL/CATHARTIC. It's a 4 channel surround sound mix of drone/ambient that I made for a session I had in my basement. I set up a speaker in each corner, invited a bunch of friends around and we all lay melting in the middle of the dark room vibrating from the bass. I love that experience. I feel so refreshed afterwards, like I've had my mind reset. It's like a spa for my brain.

It starts and ends with one of my oldest binaural recordings of rain. This was to signify the start and end of the experience - only when the rain is playing are you allowed to speak.

Probs easiest to put them on separate tracks in Ableton or whatever and route the tracks to the appropriate speakers.

So get some pillows, take a big (but responsible) dose of your favourite dissociative and disconnect from reality for a while.

These are all the jams I've recorded with the cheatboxer setup. Many of them are very very shit, but you can see how they gradually get better. So it might be interesting to if you wanna see the progress at least.

A couple of times a year I put on these sessions in my basement, where I set up 4 speakers in a circle, invite a few friends over, and we lie down and dissociate in the cosy darkness for an hour while listening to a surround sound mix I made for it.

I usually do a mix of mine and other people's ambient, drone and field recordings, plus some fucked up granular panning shit just to throw a spanner in the works (big up the refractalizerrrr, thanks Ben). Minutes long crossfades. Sometimes quiet, sometimes loud with harmonic mixing when I can. Uplifting but abstract. I try to leave some empty space and not let something too unsettling go on toooo long.

I'm sharing this one cos I think it's the best one I've done, and I hope you can get something out of it. There are two versions. One a binaural mix (this one) and a 4 channel surround one split into two stereo files (Front-Left Front-Right and Rear-Left Rear-Right) that you can find below.

If you want help with the 4 channel setup DM me. I would just drop the two files into ableton and put the first to out 1+2 and the second to 3+4. To get the right volume skip to the loudest part and set it based on that. You don't wanna have to do that half way through, trust me.

So after 2 crashes and 6 hours of work down the drain, I've finally finished this one. The second crash almost made me give up, but then as a bit of a 'fuck you' to ultra unstable adobe audition 3, I took the corrupted recovery file and mashed some of it into the track...which made me feel loads better.
Anyway it's probably one of my longest tracks to date (in both track length and time to make) so let's just hope it's been worth it....
