DJing since the early 1990’s, Simon has managed to avoid the stifling 'style' classification so many. other DJ's trap themselves into, keeping himself free to draw on his varied loves of deep, soulful house, techno, funk, jazz, electro, booty, hip hop and anything else which catches his ear. Simon has supported a list of artists longer than your arm, including Larry Heard, Theo Parrish, The Blessed Madonna, Rolando, Herbert, Claude Young, Maurice Fulton, Grace Jones, Derrick Carter, Moodymann, Moritz von Oswald, Charles Webster, Fred P and Frankie Knuckles. He currently holds down Monday Sunset on FBI Radio, and is resident/co-promoter of Mad Racket, a Sydney underground party institution running since 1998. A regular headlining guest around Australia, he has also played multiple clubs in Europe: Berlin, multiple clubs (first in 1998 at the original Tresor and most recently at Panorama Bar/Berghain and Heideglühen in 2024), Hamburg (including 3 times at Golden Pudel), London, Moscow, St Petersburg and Czech Republic. Simon has appeared twice on Boiler Room, first in 2014 and most recently in March 2024 with House of Mince, and once for Mixmag Lab.

YSE + Big Faces @ Swing Dash Radio - July 2025

So I realised recently that I had live streamed my DJ set at Smart Bar in Chicago on Facebook (remember doing stuff like that?) while on a completely amazing coast to coast tour of the USA in 2019. So that means I can rip the audio and here we have slightly over 1 hour of my set from that night. 

Huge thanks to Roger That from Playground Records for booking me at the legendary Smart Bar - it was an honour to finally play there. 

It's really cool to hear what I was playing on that tour 6 years later - was such a great time! I would have been back sooner but alas my visa ran out before the Covid restrictions were lifted and it's such a faff to get a new one. I will be back! 

I have a funny memory of Michael Serafini rushing the booth because I'd played 'Manhood' by Vikter Duplaix and he'd 'not heard it for years' - it meant a lot to have people like Michael come to support. Shouts to Oren and Katherine who played some great stuff - it was a brilliant night.

A few weeks ago, I decided to make a mix to listen to some of the new records I brought back from my trip to Europe and the UK. Totally unplanned and imperfect, just the way we used to it. Roberto Rodriguez is a Helsinki-based DJ, producer, radio host and music director. Having started making music at the age of 12 in 1987 and starting to DJ a few years later, Roberto can be called a true veteran. He has released over 50 original releases and 60 remixes including - now- classics like 'Ride With Me’, ’Besomebody’ and ’Oxymoron’. His vast catalog includes releases on labels such as Compost, Freerange, Delusions Of Grandeur, Room With A View, FINA and Eskimo. Just to name a few. 

Among his DJ and producing duties, Roberto runs his own label Serenades which is now on its third year. In Finland Roberto has a popular weekly radio show which shares its name with his label. Due to his vast experience Roberto's Dj sets are often full of treasures, both old and new, that you've never heard before and may never hear again.
