This was a quick orchestral sketch I did yesterday. It seems promising to me.

Feb 17 Sketch

Title track from 1985 NOVA records release. 
This piece comes from a much earlier period of my musical development. It is an assortment of musical ideas that was originally recorded in a studio with piano, synthesizers, electric bass, flute, drums and percussion. When I was signed with NOVA records, I reduced the composition to a solo piano piece. Since that time much has changed in my musical sensibilities and so it is time to revisit this tune. I am currently restructuring this composition for ensemble in a new recording project that was initiated by an offer to perform a concert. My intention is to recompose the entire album. My belief is compositional continuity and emotional content will be greatly improved with these reborn versions. As a reference, here is the piano solo version.

This is a favorite for me to perform and the crowds seem to enjoy it as well.  This is my own rendition of a tune that has a long history with many versions.

This is a well known Bruce Hornsby tune which I have been playing for well over two decades now. It is still relevant and powerful after all this time. I added some flair in the solo. Please enjoy!

The Way It Is

The latest cover of a Pat Metheny tune.  My studio was upgraded and moved since I originally recorded this. As a first project in the new space I decided to spruce this track up. I have added vocals, some new string lines and improved the mix. It is both an exploration of a tune I enjoy and also a study in music production. As such, I do emulate the original recording on several levels. However the soloing is where I branch out. Please enjoy.

Have You Heard

This offering is a tune I have been performing for years now and it was time to get a recording to share.  It is longer than the original Sting tune as I played my transcription of Kenny Kirkland's solo and then added my own improvisation. He was a great pianist and so I want to pay a little tribute to him for being so masterful on piano.  Also I added my own ending to this tune as Sting's recording fades out. All parts were played and recorded by myself. The opening drum solo was performed on my two djembes.

La Belle Dame Sans Regrets

"The Child" is the 2nd track on Waterfall. It is a playful composition in a theme and variation form composed and recorded in my 20s.  Now I hear new countermelodies and tonalities in an ensemble setting.

The Call

This tune is my cover of a Pat Metheny composition from their Still Life Talking release. I had recorded it a couple of years ago but I wanted to make some improvements and re-release as tribute to Lyle Mays. I transcribed part of his solo and added my take on that. Also I learned to play the guitar parts! Yes I played that solo, but I admit it took a few takes to get it done. There are other enhancements as well. Jason Kruk recorded a ride cymbal track for me in the original release. All the rest of the parts on this release were played and recorded by myself in my home studio. Please enjoy and share!
