In the news, World Famine, AIDS, a gallon of gas $1.09, a Movie ticket $2.75... Michael Jackson Buys ATV Music and every Beatles Song for $47 million! Nintendo releases the NES... ROUTE  66,  one of the first highways created in the US is removed from the United States Highway System. Windows is released Ver 1.0  and the first .com was registered.
Entertainers who died in 1985, Orson Welles, Yul Brynner, Rock Hudson ( the death that gave AIDS a face) and Margaret Hamilton (The Wicked Witch of the West).
Ricky Wilson (founding member guitarist B-52's) at the age of 32, also died from AIDS. 
We said goodbye to: David Byron (lead vocalist with Uriah Heep), Ricky Nelson (Rolling Stone ranked him #91 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004), Dennes Boon  ("Minutemen" #89 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time), "Philly Joe" Jones ("Great" Miles Davis Quintet) and Jazz Drummer Papa Jo Jones (Often confused the two died only a few days apart). Ian Stewart (pianist and co-founder Rolling Stones),  Big Joe Turner (Shake, Rattle and Roll), Jeanne Deckers (The Singing Nun),  Tex Williams ("Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! That Cigarette"), Matt Monro (The Man With The Golden Voice) and the incredible Nelson Riddle (  arranger, composer, bandleader and orchestrator 40 years of works - not enough room here .. Nat King Cole, Sinatra 'Reprise years', Oceans 11, Batman Seasons 1 and 2, Linda Rondstadt,  Ella Fitzgerald, the theme song for 'Rt.66', etc... 
And we welcomed in Bruno Mars, Lana Del Rey, Ciara and  J Cole.
