Thanks goes to Ben Nikkel for the inspiration to do something like this. Composition, recording, and mixing took something like eight and a half hours from start to finish.

I'm no Danny Sexbang, but I did my best. I really, really love the new Skyhill song (not to mention all of their old ones) and I felt a really strong compulsion to cover it after hearing it. That choice turned out to be either really bold or really stupid, and I'm not sure which. I definitely felt like both at one point or another. lol

I started out doing one of my old piano-style covers, but then decided to build on it from there because I felt it was too boring. There's lots going on, and a bit of mid-range hell, but I did the best I could with what I had.

I don't have much of a recording setup. I may have forgotten my mic stand and pop filter when I moved, and this room is super reverberant. But I did the instrumental for this about four days after Firefly came out and was tired of waiting to record it. So I threw my mic up on top of my plastic dresser and distance miked myself xD

It was a bad idea, but epicVerb is life. <3

Beyond A Joke was originally featured as a simple intstrumental on my 2012 album, Saying Goodbye To Yesterday. It was meant to have guitar, but things didn't work out at the time, and it was released as-was.

I collaborated with SEVERAL, VERY talented musicans to really bring this track to life towards the end of my college year. It was one of my final mixes and my final master, but I've since done a quicker, vaguely better mastering job on it, as I was really displeased with the original master.

This song is completely instrumental. I hope you enjoy it!

Beyond A Joke [2014, PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED]

One of 4 tracks recorded near the end of my school year at NSCC. My cover of Chasing Cars (which is already uploaded), Change Of Plans, Drown, and Beyond A Joke.

Change of Plans was written about an incident that admittedly no longer even remember. Musical influences behind this track include Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails. This track definitely had a lot of blood, sweat, and tears behind it. Especially the last one, as it's the first song I attempted to really use a de-esser on, and discovered my own vocal anomalies with.

(Trying to de-ess this song actually reduced me to tears at one point and it's probably the thing that makes me the most angry about this mix. I'm pretty confident I could do it now without nearly as much of a problem.)

I got to collaborate with some awesome musicians on this track, too! Beyond A Joke was sadly the only time I got to collaborate with Kyle, but Nick absolutely brought it when he did the drums for this track. Tracking drums for this song was some of the most fun I ever had in the studio. 

I actually learned a lot from Nick about cool little techniques and I still use them today (love dat reverse reverb)!

I've worked with him again on something more recently, and once again, he's taking a completely different role in that song. You'll just have to wait and see... (well, hear.)

A really sad song that I wrote about some bridges that I thought I bured irrepairably before I went to college. About 7 months later that turned out to not be the case, but for the first short while that I was at school I was pretty down sometimes. So this happened.

Musically, though, I'm pretty happy with it. I just wish that I had bloody remembered to separate the drum stems before giving it to the mix engineer, but this track being mixed and mastered was kind of last minute. X_x

Still, I really appreciate Gee mixing it and mastering it for me! All things considered this is a good mix!
