The main theme of this piece is influenced by one of the central themes from Tchaikovsky`s Symphony Pathetique. However, the theme took on its own dynamics in the ongoing creative process and emerged a piece that has more of a chanson character. Have fun with this beautiful instrumental.

The Climb

This one was a bit of a labour of love - the joy of recording, mixing and filming yourself! This was my first collaboration with Vlad on the drums - I love his 70s-inspired tone and the energy that he brought to the track. The piano part was inspired by the playing of Nicky Hopkins on John Lennon's "Jealous Guy", as were the strings (another first for me).

As always with my songwriting, the song is a mixture of autobiography and observation of other people. I'm sure that the many problems in the world had something to do with the dark subject matter too (the song was written in the middle of the pandemic). But in the words of Richard Thompson: "I like to visit dark places, but that doesn't mean that I want to live there"!
