Beatnik Collects 011 inbound and sound from BODY MVMT’s chief mover, Robert James. 

Heading up one of the finest party comes labels on the UK, Robs been a busy man these last few years. We’re both massive fans of Robs and we’re buzzing to have him on the series. 

It’s an 1hr42 of throwback 90s house vibes cut up with breaky cuts and fast, tasty, pacey beats, tickling a lot of our fancies and  ticking many a box. There’s also a few unreleased number upcoming on Body MVMT, no clues as to which ones they are though.

About the CD:
So back in the day Deep Dish were one of those mythical dj partnerships we didnt get to see too much in the UK but were held up there with the likes of Danny Tenaglia and of course the UK god's that were Sasha and Digweed. Label bosses of the excellent Yoshitoshi records and regular faces on the legendary Global Ungerground cd's. Although this disc doesn't go down as an all time favourite for me it does define the late 90's and some great times clubbing which is certainly enough to get into the series.

About the CD:
I was always aware of Bukem, another DJ who managed to make underground rumblings to the listeners of the British dance scene without  us seemingly knowing who they even were... we just knew about them anyway.  immediately fell in love with this CD once Makoto's 'Inside Your Love' rolled in with MC Conrad's silky smooth mc'ing riding over the top. I'd always loved drum and bass from a distance, but from hearing that track... I was forever a massive fan. I bought into the Good Looking label, bought alot of old releases, all the mix cd's and then fell in love with Bukem's downtempo sister label 'Cookin Records'. This influence was one of the main sounds of my early vinyl days and has gone on to educate and delight for another decade and more. Play it loud, ride the groove, feel the bass. BUKEM!

Scott Bradford (Shindig/Lexicon Avenue) recommends 'Back to Basics - Cut the Crap - Disc 3 mixed by Ralph Lawson' (1996).

We've got a special recommendation to celebrate our 40th episode of the classic mix CD series from Scott Bradford, who of course is, known for being behind, one of the longest running and most influential club nights in the UK, Shindig in Newcastle. Which amazingly kicked off in 1992 and is now stronger than ever with sell out parties every month at their new home, Warehouse 34. Scott is also well known for his Lexicon Avenue productions and Forensic Records label and has generally been a legend bringing house music’s finest to everyone for over 20 years.

He’s recommended disc 3 from back to Basics ‘cut the crap’ CD, which  features mixes from Derrick Carter, Andrew Weatherall, and this mix from Ralph Lawson. Now Considering it came out in 1996 that’s a ridiculously good shout  So Thanks for sharing it with us Scott, it’s much appreciated and here’s hoping for another great 20 odd years for Shindig, yourself and all the gang . So Turn it up and enjoy the mix!
