Come along for a 23 year long journey! Spirit/Spirit of Ibiza/My Spirit, has held a special place within my musical heart for a long time. Second track on my first (and probably last) real single release (on vinyl). From a time when labels where real and music was physical. Thanks to everybody who made this journey possible, the Transa brothers, Blue Amazon, Inzite (J. Gustafsson) and my brother Eric (@ericlidstroem), especially for finding all this in the deep archives of The Lidstroem Sound Republic!

"Recitation", my breakthrough track in 2002-2003. Made quite a buzz with the help of Misja Helsloot and Armin van Buuren. Armin had the Misja Helsloot Remix as "Tune of the Week" 5 times in a row and opened his NYE gig in NY with it. It opened alot of doors to me. I got invited to play at clubs, free shots in the bars, hang out with ALOT of cool people. The "Original Mix" never made it onto the vinyl sadly, but had a life of its own through FTPs and Napster back then. The "Radio Edit" got used as a theme-track for a event called Tranceatlantic in Stockholm, Sweden. My biggest track to this point, now available for all of you to enjoy, legally!

"Tribute To Gorgeous Mix". In 2009 i decided to pay tributes to the best club me and my brother, @ericlidstroem ever visited. Club Gorgeous was actually named Club IN and was located in Copenhagen. But on Wednesdays, Club IN turned into Club Gorgeous, and it was heaven! 50 minute trainride from me in Sweden, we met people along the way, and it was always a blast! Me and my brother eventually got VIP-entrance to the club, and we were treated very well there, especially by a legend called Michael Splint and his then to be wife, Sasja.

Champagne would fall from the heavens and we went open to close more then once! This club had its haydays in 2001-2002 when trance-royalty like Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Graham Gold, Cosmic Gate and many many more played there! And the atmosphere, it was crowded like, i dont know, and you could shake the DJs hand directly from the floor.

My humble tribute was a new take on my track Recitation, a little touch up. Not released, and it didnt make its way on to the internet much, it seems. But here it is! Enjoy!

Robert Lidstroem - Recitation (Tribute To Gorgeous Mix)

Another fairly unknown remix from 2003 by Paul Moelands (of Octagen and Re:Locate-fame!). I never knew this was made, even back in the day, but as i kept an eye out on the interwebs this came floating by. Its a proper great remix, by a really great producer. Paul went on to make huge tracks like Re:Locate - Waterfall and was a big name both for Galactive and Captivating (Armada), he also worked at Armada as Creative Director! Enjoy!

Robert Lidstroem - Recitation 2008 (Eric Lidstroem Nutid Remix)

In 2000 i had a change of style and got more influenced by the german and dutch trance scene. Me and my brother (@ericlidstroem) was buying In Trance We Trust and Trancemaster-mixalbums by the truckloads! I have a feeling i must have started this even in late 1999, and i believe this was made in either MadTracker2 or FruityLoops, yes the DAW was named FruityLoops. Still using it 23 years on! This is one of the absolutely first versions of the track later known as "My Spirit". Using my DJ Zephyr moniker at the time!

We are still in early 2000, January 22nd (thanks @ericlidstroem for digging through the archives). This is a somewhat different version and i did a namechange aswell. Fairly simple stuff, and uplifting. I had been producing for 2-3 years at this point.

Now we are in 2001! Epic music year, and headlong into trance by this time! I had left home and was at the moment living with a close friend, J. Persson (@joakim-persson-649475997). Like mentioned before he had all the bells and whistles in terms of both hardware and skill! We took it upon us to freshen this track up, and while doing so, we made a co-op alias to go with it, "Dual Force" (nah, i dont think Dutch Force had anything to do with the name....not at all...nahah!). This made its way up on Beatmaka, a great site for amatures to get music featured! Great times! Enjoy!

Still in 2001! Jan Gustafsson, "Inzite" was a fellow Swedish producer who went on to make awesome things in the trancescene! He was also very active on a website called Beatmaka, even released a fullength album (which i ofcourse have), and he was kind enough to even include this remix on his own album. We still chat now and then, me and Jan, and have made (very vague) plans of hitting Luminosity in the future as part of a old Swedish Trance Producers Alumni-kind of thing ;)

Great guy, awesome producer! Went on to release on Galactive, ATCR, Godskitchen Recordings and more!

P.S: This is not to be confused with the later "Transa vs Inzite Remix"! More on that later on!

Dual Force - Spirit of Ibiza (Inzite Remix)

Time to get serious! As you can see its not "DJ Zephyr" or "Dual Force" anymore. Now, this is straight from my one and only true release in 2003. Although not as commercially succesful as the Misja Helsloot-remix of Recitation, this was a true trancer! Cue classic trance courtesy of legends Transa! Lush pads, production is impeccable, stomping right to the end. Now, why would there be a "vs Inzite"? Well, its 20 years ago so i might not be spot on. But to some extent Transa borrowed inspiration and style in a way, from the Inzite remix, that it was best to just release it as "Transa vs Inzite".

People just made remixes and released online. As i now try to catalogue the releases/productions/remixes, i found this one again. Can you say "breakthrough". This is the one, the magic, the holy grail! The Misja Helsloot Remix was commisioned by the label, for the single release. It has a slower, different vibe to it, but boy did it hit! I will be forever in debt to Misja for making this, and his connection to Armin did help! Thanks to official "Lidstroem Sound Republic"-archive-worker @ericlidstroem for digging out this quite impressive info:

"the Misja Helsloot remix of Robert track "Recitation" was featured in ASOT episode 083, 084, 085, 086, 087, 089, 095 and the Transa remix of "My Spirit" was featured in ASOT episode 113 (with Lange as a guest DJ). Dual Force - Mindwalker (Planet X Remix)

Now! This is a proper smack-banger from the talent of Giorgio Ponticelli! Great italian guy who I recently took up contact with again. He had great success back in the early 2000s on the most popular platforms (Beatmaka and MP3.Com). With a harder edge, he took "Mindwalker" to a "pre-Nu-NRG"-state! I have contacted him recently to see if he had his old stuff still, but sadly, no, I would strongly enforce a 7min extended mix, if it was possible.

What happened? "Mindwalker"? Well this was in the period of "Spirit"/"Spirit of Ibiza" - so what happened? I teamed up with J. Persson once again under our "Dual Force"-alias and "Mindwalker" came to life! Production-wise this is a great leap forward. J.P. had all the cool stuff of that time (Novation!). It came out a banger, and we did good on Beatmaka back then! Great times!

"Boundless" was in the spirit of "Spirit 2000", made in the same way and style. Uplifting trance inspired by the tracks of the numerous albums me and my brother were buying back then. This track also had an interresting journey, probably starting as a FTII-track, going up on TraxInSpace, back then. After that Joakim Persson (@joakim-persson-649475997) reproduced it using his hardware and knowledge! Think it ended up on Beatmaka.com and MP3.Com, and id quite well. We managed to get 2 remixes on it. Planet X i dont know much about (we are talking the bleepin years 2000-2001!), but Giorgio Ponticelli was very well established back then! Hard/uplifting trance from Italy, right before Nu-Nrg came along!

This old track might be up for a rework and perhaps a remix in the future!

Robert Lidstroem - My Spirit (Atharil Remix)

This track is made out of love for classic trance sounds of the early 2000's, of which the original by Robert Lidstroem is a perfect example. My version is made exclusively with hardware synthesizers, effect units and drum machines of the era, recorded live through an analog mixer with only minimal processing and some samples added afterwards. Thus, it is not a modern take, but instead aims to capture the spirit, joy and nostalgia that classic uplifting trance evokes in us who love it.

I hope you enjoy the result as much as I did producing it!

My Spirit (Atharil Remix)

Time for something fresh! Or a new take on an old classic, atleast! "Recitation" is sort of my middle name, since it was released in 2002, i havent been able to top it! Champagne would fall from the heavens, VIP-entry was a day-to-day-thing, rubbing elbows with Armin, Ferry, Marco, just another day in the office! Good times!

So this version...Its no secret that i've always been a huge admirer of Rank 1 and Piet & Benno. Their live-performances at Sensation 2001 and Trance Energy are the stuff of legends! This version just started as a joke back in august 2024, with the idea of "what if???". So i did just that! A pounding drum, clean off drumrolls, crashes, and swooshes! 

Imagine just having a sequencer and big frickin cutoff-knob! Thats about it! Now dont take this too seriously as its mostly just a humble homage to the legendary RANK 1!
