Written about my mother giving up our house after the divorce from my father when I was five years old. 

Written in an advanced songwriting class at ASCAP when asked to take a books' title from the New York Times bestsellers list and write a song. I chose "Nothing Down: How to Buy Real Estate with Little or No Money Down"

I wrote the song in class and my blind musician friend Gordon Kent wrote the music to the bridge and we recorded. 

Nothing Down, to me encapsulated my mothers desire to have nothing to do with the house anymore (once love was gone) even though when growing up the oldest of eleven children in Brooklyn, it was her dream to own a house in the suburbs with a small garden. 

She gave her dream up at a loss just to escape the memory of a failed love.

PRETZEL (Karen Wallo) the artist/singer "spiritual sister" of TEDDY (Robert Michael Turco) is staring at her new "masterpiece", then listens to an old jukebox, and finally stares into a baby carriage holding a baby and sings about that nebulous and mysterious "something in the middle" of a thing that pulls us inexplicably into Art, Music, even a living thing.
